I planted cilantro in with my strawberry plants and kept them mostly in the shade. I also watered them every time I went outside. My parsley plant got so big it started to become a tree. Green onions are a total loss every time I try to grow them.
I'm planning on starting some more seeds for a succession crop. I haven't done it yet but I have heard of it so I think that just might give me a better chance to get some food canned. I'm also going to plant some herbs to keep in the house for cooking.
The son in law helped me get the potting soil mixed in the bathtub that's out back. I filled the 3rd bucket and working on the 4th one. I needed a break.
I said a few days ago that I planted my mint plants and marjoram but today my marjoram looked like it was trying to die so I watered it and the mint plants and now I will be on a mission to grow my own marjoram.
I have finally decided that the weeds are going to be sprayed with chemicals to get rid of them. I'm planting the garden in pots so I'm okay with using chemicals on the ground. I also plan to raise the pots off the ground.
With the crabgrass I spent probably over 20 hours trying to get it out of the garden. I'm just really thinking that just using cardboard and paper and rocks to bury it, I might be able to avoid weeding for so many hours and times.
I'm still trying to figure out how to make my garden productive without having to fight the crabgrass. Of course now my husband wants to build it off the ground but I don't know if that's what I want.
Welcome to Sufficient Self. Gardening and taking care of my chickens and ducks and rabbit are awesome. I would like to get some fruit trees but for now I will just be happy with my pomegranate tree and the black and blue berry bushes.
