What discontinued foods do you miss?

I miss Ben and Jerry's "Totally Nuts" ice cream. Really really bad. When my husband and I were dating his brother was a manager at one of there shops and would bring home a store size container of it every month. It's how he paid rent. I loved it. My husband's aunt is one of the ceo's at...

    Build your own YURT

I actually don't have an issue with them per se. It's not about heat or comfort or being weather proof. It's the fact that they're round. I really need to have things symmetrical and square. It may sound funny, but my husband and I have almost had fights over furniture placement because of...

Ladies, may I ask you a question in private?

A cup of tea fixes everything. Oh wait....Am I channeling my grandmother again?

"Kitchen herbalism" for colds and flu

I can use the calves from the Devon though for freezer camp though, hehe. Of course, they are out of my price range, and I'm a bit lazy, so it's all just wishful thinking. Unless one just decided to wander into my front yard. And I am not hijacking this thread, honest! ;)

"Kitchen herbalism" for colds and flu

I didn't know this about vit A. We do pasture our hens. But man, everywhere I look lately it seems that there are signs that I need to get a dairy cow. Anyone know where I could get a good devon heifer on the cheap? :D

    quick chicken question

Really? You cook veggies for your chickens? I figure if they are going to eat my peas and beans straight off the vines, pull my carrots out of the ground, and completely decimate my lettuces out in the garden, then they can have veggies straight from the fridge. :P

"Kitchen herbalism" for colds and flu

Part of why people get sick in winter is the lack of vit D. There's been a lot of research in the last 10 years to show that vit D is a supporter of the immune system. So either go outside or take those supplements. I think the reccomendation is something like 2000 iu's a day. It's helped...

    Build your own YURT

My husband's been talking about it for a while now. He think's it's a great idea to live in one while we tear down our current house and rebuild. He got the idea from my best friend. He needs to stop listening to her.

    Seven hens a laying

We were getting about 19 out of 24 almost every day. Then we discovered that our BSL decided that the hay loft was way cozier than the custom made next boxes, or just got tired of waiting her turn, and we found about 18 of her eggs stashed up there. She still lays one every day for us. I...

Ok pig people...I just found a stray piglet!!!! (NEW Photos pg 21)

But the whole point of me lurking is so that one deep dark night I can sneak over there and "liberate" a pork chop in need of an alternative lifestyle. Alternative meaning without sheep to bug it. Yeah, that's it. And by the time I do it you'll have forgotten all about me because I'll have...

Ok pig people...I just found a stray piglet!!!! (NEW Photos pg 21)

I've been enjoying this thread a great deal. Laughing a lot. Very jealous. And then it hit me. You aren't all that far from Olympia. Pigs are my absolute favorite animals we've ever raised (excepting my kids, usually). The nights are still quite long and dark here. ;) Or maybe I should...

    Making Wood Stove Glass Cleaner

My husband has been known to use a straight razor to take off the really baked on stuff. Seems to work for him and it's super cheap. I personally don't mind the "well-used" look. ;)

Homeschoolers opinions sought...state internet home school

One thing I have learned in the last year is that you just need to jump in. Find something that feels right. And if it doesn't work out as well as you thought then oh well, you can always change it, tweak it, or drop it. ;) It's one of the perks of being in charge.

Making your money choices and family

There are five adult kids in my family. Four of us are married. So it could get hectic with if we gave gifts to everyone. We just do a family gift exchange and we rotate families. Everyone knows who gets who, well actually, my sister is suppossed to keep track of that for us since she's the...
