We're unschooling. DS is only 6 and so far it's working out pretty well for us. I don't know if this method will always work for him so I'm keeping an open mind in case we need to adopt something more formal later on. I'm planning to HS the other kids too.
I normally love PB and could eat it by the spoonfuls but, sadly, this baby doesn't seem to care for it much and pitches great heaving fits of nausea in protest. I never had this aversion with my other pregnancies so I'm slightly disgruntled by it. LOL.
LOL, I'm super hormonal - peanut butter makes me cry, LOL. I was just saying that I thought it was really cool how a family's seeming misfortune turned into a blessing. It's always inspiring when a negative turns out to be a positive and you can actually make the connection.
We've been talking about doing turkeys too. We butchered out our chickens between 4 and 6 months and I preferred the younger meat even though the birds weren't quite as big then. The 6 month old chickens were still way better than store-bought but the 4 monthers were so juicy. At what age do you...
Last year DSD's mom wanted to have her tested for ADHD because one of her teachers recommended it. DH and I were vehemently against it because we don't believe in it. The holidays were approaching and we decided to make frosted sugar cookies. It would be a fun treat but it was also a sort of...
I've only been fishing once in my life (sheltered, I know, LOL). Ruby is west of I-19, way back in the hills. It's a ghost town. I believe there is a caretaker who lives there and once in a while some touristy snow birds will drive through. Here are a couple of sites that talk about the history...
I really didn't bring this up to start a debate so I'm not going to continue the argument. Rather, if anyone has any questions about home birth or might be considering it in their future, please feel free to PM me. There are some really great books and websites that provide some great insight...
I fail to see how this topic is any less SS than the thread on reusable feminine products (http://www.sufficientself.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=605). Having a baby at home is significantly more resourceful than giving birth in a hospital - especially this day in age when the vast majority of...
We used to go to Pina Blanca Lake and Arivaca Lake a lot too. I can't remember which one it was but when I was a kid one of the lakes had a restaurant and also a place to rent paddle boats.
Have you been out to Ruby? There's a small lake/pond there too and it's very secluded.
I'm sorry I didn't put a warning in the title. I'm used to posting on my birth board where the birth stories sometimes are much more graphic.
Home birth is definitely not for everyone. According to the WHO 10% of pregnant women will require a c-section. That number is much, much higher in the...
I noticed that there are no topics on home birth, which I feel definitely falls into the SS category. I had my last baby at home with the help of a midwife and, with any luck, we'll be having our next one at home as well this June. I'll include my birth story here and would love to read about...
Not everyone researches their food choices. In fact, the majority of the population breeze through their lives doing exactly what they're told whether the instruction comes from their TV, their doctor, their neighbor, or WIC. I'm sure I'm not alone when I question everything I'm told, no matter...
We burn most of our paper and we haven't used paper towels in over a year so none of that goes into the compost. We put tea bags in the compost too. We don't drink coffee but I know several people who put the filter paper right into the compost along with the grounds so I would imagine that...
So my sister emailed me the hand-outs that WIC gave her.
It should be noted that my sister is 5' tall and maybe 100 lbs soaking wet (funny since I'm 6'1" but that's a topic for another conversation). Her DH is about 6'2" and very lean as well. So naturally her kids are very small. DS2 is 2...
I was poking around online today and found some ideas for filtering the gray water that were pretty simple. You divert the water into a sand filter tank (that you can easily make yourself) and then through a contained planter. By the time it comes out of the planter it's usable for irrigation...
We're looking to rent for now. I don't want to finance anything if we don't have to. I'd rather be paying rent to someone while we save for a piece of property than to give it to a financial institution in the form of interest. Besides, I want to be able to shop around for good deals and that's...
I just found a nifty website that I am going to peruse when I have more than five minutes to sit down and read through it. I don't know if it's selling a product or not - I'll find out soon enough.
