    i reckon the proof is in the pudding if you go the ruth stout method make sure the hay or straw wasnt sprayed with 2-4-D. thats a herbicide that kills broad leave weeds but it has a residual effect and can effectively poison your garden for aome time.

    ive never used saw dust but i bet it will work just fine. bte is alot less work. im all for it, but your gonna want to back off on the chemical a little for it to work well. commericial fertilizer (salts) are harmful to soil microbes and so are pesticides. the microbial life is pretty...

    plamt enough pole beans and you will be canning until the frost!. :lol: we still have 30 qts from last year. a man can only eat green beans so much.

    my chickens LOVE cucumbers. i grow nation pickling and always let a few get big and yellow for the birds.

    ive never grown navy beans. are they a pole bean? do you wait for the pods to dry before harvest?

    green beans on the fence lines squash potatoes the follow up with black eyed peas after harvest. that will keep you fed for sure. anything else is a bonus

    just whatever i could get from the tree services. some loads were really coarse, like had 6 inch sticks in it. some was finer, like 1 inch chunks and less. sometimes i put layers of leaves or animal bedding too or straw. anything to cover the soil

    ants love woodchips. they havent effected the produce tho. i kill em out every now and then

    pretty easy. i tilled the first year and laid down a foot of woodchips. then more as they break down. always spreading manure on it too and trench composting. when i plant i rake out a bed then hoe in some rabbit manure and plant. everything grows well it seems

    thanks. im not sure. its worth a shot. i alwausplant onions at the end of jan or early feb.
