    What's for dinner?

I've got chicken thighs thawed so tonight will be something chicken-ish. Somebody mentioned gumbo a couple days ago so I may lean in that direction. Won't be authentic because we'll skip the rice. May or may not totally change my mind between now and dinner. Another possibility would be a...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Up at 5:30am this morning. Half a cuppa coffee down so far - much more to go. Another doc appt for DH this morning. Cooler weather is nice - 57 this morning. Rain has been appreciated but I'm over it now. Need some sunshine! Grandson's 18th birthday today. Whew, time does fly!

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

We got another inch of rain today. Ok - that's enough now. Texans are playing Cowboys tonight. So far so good. The shunt adjustment seems to have at least helped DH a little. He's walking marginally better...anxious to see if it continues to improve or if he plateaus like last time.

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Cake mix is pretty versatile stuff. I've actually used it to make cookies. When I thought I didn't have brownie mix I looked online and sure enough, you can also make brownies out of a cake mix too! Yesterday was a fairly decent, fairly busy day. Texans don't play until tonight night so I...

    Are we living our dream?

I get that way too. I wonder why I end up at the store buying hundreds of dollars worth of food that I have to find a place to store, lol. I guess we just get accustomed to the "easy way" sometimes.

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Listed some goats for sale yesterday - supposed to have someone coming tomorrow to pick up 4. Now - will this person really show up? Who knows? I think this is the same person who has previously ghosted me so I'm skeptical. Went ahead and caught the hard to catch one and put her and the...

    What's for dinner?

In my former life (first husband) I made potato soup fairly often. It really is comfort food of the highest caliber! Miss it... Last night was popcorn for DH and grits for me, lol. I was tired... Tonight will be salmon.

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

This is the one I used. https://www.emlabgenetics.com/product-page/p-test-strip-sheep-goat-10 For collection I used a fairly long piece of lightweight PVC pipe with a cup taped on the end. The hardest part is waiting for one to actually need to pee, lol. Generally, if they've been laying...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Forty-seven degrees - yee haw! I know for a lot of ya'll that is balmy weather, but I've been waiting for this for months. We're still going to have fluctuations in the temps for the next week or so. We could be anywhere from mid 60's to low 80's but there is a day or two with highs in the...

Embracing Winter on the Homestead: A Seasonal Journey

Winters here are generally fairly mild. We have the odd hard freeze, but usually doesn't last more than a couple of days...if that long. It's a time to do as much outside work as I can so that I don't have to do it in the summer heat. For the critters, it's just a matter of keeping liquid...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

I hope not, lol. The area I previously planted in ground has been reverted back to goat pens. I don't grow as much in the fall, so right now this is what's working for me. For a spring/summer garden I'll have to find more room, or go vertical, especially with vining plants. Cucumbers, peas...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Up and at 'em this morning. On my second cup of coffee. In between the first cup and this one I've done a mad dash cleaning effort. Not that bad really but I needed to deal with some mail that had stacked up along with sweeping the floor. I've had a sheet over the recliner since DH spends so...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Son and DIL came away from the car show with three plaques. Yay! DIL and I went fishing Sunday morning. It was a very weird fishing day. I caught a bunch of little bluegill. She caught a bunch of little bluegill too. Then she started fishing in what we refer to as the "Devils Den" because...
