    Daydreaming while waiting impatiently!

Ahhhh, poor guy! That's gotta be miserable. Mama knows best! I hope he gets better soon.

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Woke up at 3am to DH's high blood sugar alarm going off. I spent about an hour and a half headed in the right direction after I gave him a bolus. Thought I could go right back to sleep. Nope! DH needed bathroom time, lol. I did squeak out another hour between 5 and 6, but woke up and...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Up and at 'em at 5am this morning! Whoo Hoo! No wait - that's a lie, lol. I'm up - but I'm not at anything except coffee! There's not enough coffee in the world to work on this deep fatigue I'm feeling these days. Nothing to do but keep on pushing. This too will pass. We have rain in...

What did you do in your garden today?

Finally planted carrots. Also turnips, radishes and lettuce. Still need to plant onions, garlic and more taters. Slowly but surely...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

I get it. My DH has a myriad of health challenges. I don't want to add to his stress so if I need to 'let it out' I disappear outside for awhile. My pond is a place of peace for me. I hope you have something that brings you peace also.

What are your go-to tips for making the most of your harvest each season?

Same here - dehydrate, freeze or can. We don't have the climate here for root cellar storage but can hold some winter squash for a while without refrigeration.

What did you do in your garden today?

May or may not have wasted some seeds and some time today. I planted one of the raised beds in sugar snap peas. Even if they don't mature enough to produce a crop the plants will still be good for the soil. I'm working on preparing another bed for carrots. I fluffed the soil in there today...

What did you do in your garden today?

Thanks so much! I like it. I set up a tiny aquaponic experiment last year and know that in theory it can work. I took it down because I needed to move it. It wasn't big enough to be more than an experiment, but I learned a lot and had great fun with it. I'd like to expand to a bigger system...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

I HAD to! It's my therapy. It helps that the beds are close to the house in the backyard. Hope I can keep up with it, but much easier to do in fall/winter as opposed to spring/summer. There are a couple of volunteer tomatoes and some volunteer Thai basil too. Hope I can actually harvest at...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

I hate to even say anything about the lack of rain - but we could use a little. I've been trying to move some dirt off of the big mound into some low places. The pond dirt was really packed well by the guy who dug the pond. Packed clay that's dry, dry, dry is like trying to dig into solid...

    What's for dinner?

It was loosely based on this recipe. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/148540/spicy-red-bell-pepper-soup/ Changes I made: I didn't put any rice in it. I added a couple of ounces of cream cheese. I also cooked it down to a fairly thick consistency and then added cream at the end. DH had...

    What's for dinner?

I made Red Pepper Soup last night. Wasn't exactly red because I used red, yellow and orange peppers in it. It was yumalicious!

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Were you able to get your regular feed in a super bag? Whew, I know scooping that all out was a lot of work! I've considered it - maybe I need to inquire about it the next time I'm at the feed mill. Sheesh! My main feed is over $17 a bag. I've recently started cutting it with some other...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Yesterday was a good day for outside work. Bright and sunny, but not terribly hot. I got another raised bed cleaned out and ready for planting. I have some savoy cabbage plants and more broccoli to go in there. I already have some "normal" cabbage and some baby broccoli in the ground. Also...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

It did hurt! I had to be a big girl for the grands though, lol. We had planned to get a whole bunch of chores done, but it didn't happen. That's ok though - I don't want to see them just so they can do farm chores. For the first time the pond got some serious fishing pressure. I'm...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

The Grands and I put together a hoop house yesterday. GS pounded a couple of t-posts and then GD wanted to try. She wasn't making a lot of progress so I decided to show her how it was done.' GS said it needed one more blow to get it perfect so I raised up the pounder and with all my might...
