I think a normal large chicken egg is a 1/4 cup?
If so, I will measure them that way.
I asked google, it says 4 large eggs is 1 cup. So use enough small pullet eggs to fill the liquid measuring cup to 1/2 cup.
I don't think so, but I couldn't find my canning ruler so I wasn't measuring. I tired to keep the liquid level lower than the recipe says because they do seem to leak out a little during processing. Maybe the level of the gizzards was too high or I missed a large air bubble.
I have a dozen extra small eggs in the frisge from the new layer flock. How many small eggs do I use to make a cookie dough recipe that calls for 2 eggs?
Not with the electric canner, my old canner is a stovetop, aluminim(?), 7 quart Nesco (I think). It was given to me by my neighbor and is pretty old. I have replaced the sealing ring for it, but the stem for the weight leaks steam around the bottom where it attaches and the little plastic plug...
I finally got the old flock of chickens butchered and into the fridge. Gotta get them cut, packaged and frozen soon.
The new flock needs to get out of the brooder area and into the coop with the run. The new flock is starting to lay and I need to get them nest box trained. I will be...
I usually end up getting it going in the evening after supper. I let it do its business while I sleep, then in the morning I pull out the jars (still warm) and clean the canner up and put it on the shelf for the next time.
I used it for waterbath canning for tomatoes also. Only 20 minutes of...
One of the 1/2 pints of gizzards didn't seal tight. Found out when I was washing them to put them on the shelf. Another good reason to wash with hot soap and water before storing.
I know all the lids had pinged before washing them and I wash them one by one with a hot soapy washcloth and...
This is an interesting topic, and now that the growing season is done, I will give my 2 cents.
The most important thing to grow in your garden is what you and your family will eat.
For instance: We grew peppers this year. Green and Red bell peppers; jalapenos, salsa and Anaheim chiles. Why...
For some reason, I cannot get spinach and lettuce seeds to sprout. Is there something I need to do besides planting in seed starting mix and keeping them moist? Light on them or no light?
I have tried planting them in seed starting mix, Jiffy peat pots and potting soil. On a heating mat and...
Got some tomatoes canned up: not much, but some. The tomatoes didn't do so hot this year. My fault, I didn't get them staked up right away and weeds took over. The plants got diseased really bad and by fall most were just stems and tomatoes with a few green leaves at the top of the plant...
Not quite Azure Standard, but we used to get Bountiful Baskets Co-op when we were out in Wyoming. I checked their site, and they don't deliver to Wyoming anymore, lol. that surprised me because that service was so popular.
It was a kinda a crap-shoot of not knowing what you were going to be...
Last week I saw Mac & Cheese was $2.50 a box, this week the store has a package of 10 for $15 (so $1.50 per box).
I bought a 12 pack a month ago for $12. That may have to last for the rest of my life, lol. In reality, DH loves the stuff so I will have to continue to stock it in my pantry for...
I would like to believe that our place would be a good SHTF place, but in reality, it is not. It is only about 1 mile off the major highway and our house it right at the intersection, way too close to the road. It would be really hard to defend if it came to that.
But we are far enough away...
I love my electric pressure canner. Canning meals in a jar (soups and stews) is a 90 minute process time, so it is nice that I can load it up after supper and let it go on its own without having to babysit it. In the morning, I remove the jars and let them finish cooling on the counter.
I...
Turning the can of adhesive upside down limits the amount of oxygen and therefore the drying out of the open jar. Like making a new seal on the jar.
Just make sure it is tightly closed. I managed to glue a can of adhesive down onto the shelf doing that, lol.
