More hunting
More diving
Sell my house in the city and move to my rural property in the next month.
Quit my job because life is more important than the risk of getting killed.
Do they know what ate him ? I have hunted pigs for a few years with dogs and a knife, had some close calls with pigs charging but the dogs always got in there, I used to have a lab x pitbull that was good at walking by my side and smacking pigs that were close.
Hope everyone is having a good one. Here in good old New Zealand we are in the middle of summer which means Christmas BBQ, swimming in the river, air conditioners on 24-7 and severe sun burn.
The fire ants sound brutal, what a horrible way to go. Our wild pigs here can be a real problem in some areas, they are hunted pretty hard with dogs so are usually controlled well on public land.
Cats, Stoats, Ferrets and Possums are the four main predators for killing our native wildlife. I have a particular hate for Feral cats because they will kill for fun. Many or our native birds and reptiles are critically endangered.
This big red stag has been seen a few times on a property I shoot on, he is safe as the land owner doesn't want him shot, plus I can't eat antler and have shot plenty of big stags over the years, heaps of yearlings around at the moment which are the target right now as we are into Summer.
I have totalled 5 feral cats in the last two weeks, sons of bitches. I have noticed a decline in California Quail in the last month, but after trapping the last cat I heard a male Quail calling which was nice to hear. The frogs are going crazy at the moment as well which I love to hear as well.
My friend has to fence and cover all of his gardens, and the peacocks roost on the railing around his porch so he is always cleaning up their crap. They look nice but I think it's a no for me. 😄
I just realised I don't skimp on some things, I buy power tools new, top quality brands, and firearms I buy new as well. Maybe I can because I skimp on everything else 😄
Seems like a lot of money for a goat, and she isn't that young, is that a normal price ? Can you find a young nanny that's pregnant (first time mum) ween the kid (or kids) off to sell and keep milking the mum.
I used to have a wild breed sheep ewe that I could milk.
Yeah we have Muscovy here, had them when I was a kid, I can't really remember them much but we had a bunch of different cross bred types, all I remember is the ground being soured really badly. I have a lot of wild ducks at my place, also a type called a Paradise duck which I really don't like...
I have heard that Coyotes can be really sneaky and nasty. Bit of a worry when they get so bold that are attacking kids or peoples small lap dogs as well.
This is about as large as a predator is in my country (NZ) I hate Feral cats with a passion due to how destructive they are, our native birdlife and reptiles are precious. I have started setting stoat traps as well. It has been a pretty bad year for feral cats. I have seen good numbers of ground...
I have only eaten Canada goose and they are just incredible, I cut out the breast meat and fry like a steak. tender, delicious and one of the best dark meats I have ever had.
WOW I can't imagine what it must be like to have predatory animals big enough to kill livestock. I have shot dogs before for attacking/killing my livestock years ago, but that's not the same as wild predators.
Great topic ! Like many others I enjoy the challenge of being frugal and saving. I find it incredibly satisfying knowing how much more money I have in my pocket but at the same time having a bounty of food that was obtained either incredibly cheaply or free. Its the same as having a huge supply...
I make Tomato sauce in Summer/Autumn as a way to use up all the Tomatoes I grow, I love them and last year was picking about 2kgs a day. It's pretty cheap to buy sugar and vinegar for the sauce.
I like to make a HUGE pot of chicken stew from a whole chicken, by the time I add onions/potatoes...
