Thats handy! My girl goats used to be like that for the back of the wagon, rattle some feed and they followed me anywhere. Except when the day came to sell them. They would NOT get on the float and seriously embarrassed me in front of the buyer haha. We got them on eventually and the new owner...

One of my drakes is unwell so he is up on the patio living a life of luxury until he either heals or dies. Frankly I am not going to fork out for a vet bill when I have so many ducks. He is getting cared for better than I ever did in hospital! I assume the excess weight on this drake may have...

The biggest issue with nuts for me is to keep birds off them. I have enough trouble with the apples and pears! I lose at least 30% to the little buggers. I really like this - Im going to keep an eye out for something like that in the secondhand and stock stores. It looks like fun! Thanks all :)

What did you do in the garden today?

It certainly does its fair share of weed whacking :p I will have to go out and do more again already. The shire put an article in the newspaper saying the grass is not allowed to be more than 100mm high. This late rain has been really helpful, but is doubling the workload! I trimmed back the...

    Coronavirus Concern Up

Personally, I have little sympathy for the Victorians who are upset about these lockdowns. What is that saying? I dont agree with what you say but I'll defend your right to say it. They should be allowed to voice their concerns, but in doing so, they show how little perspective they have. The...

    Coronavirus Concern Up

Yes, all of this has happened in the state of Victoria and been national news. It's probably not as bad as it looks as this mentions every single event - The majority of Victorians seem to be in support of their premier and lockdown as a control. Australia is pretty laid back in that people...

Since I've finally figured out how to attach photos, here are some from this evening in the garden.

What did you do in the garden today?

I got the whipper snipper out again this afternoon. Its so beautiful in the garden at sunset and the days are getting longer again. I cant believe how late in the evening it is already! My arms are a bit shakey now but it was nice to tidy some edges and knock down some weeds on the verge of...

    Homemade lotion

Ah a craft store! I had been looking in supermarkets, there is no walmart here. Next time I go to town I will look in the craft store :) thanks. Postal delivery is hit and miss, not much will post to my location or po box and what does is expensive.

I didn't think of animal fat! Good thinking. My drakes are very, very fat animals. I'd only use them in a dire situation, but its good to have that info. I'm not sure which nuts would grow here. Its a battle to keep the birds off fruit so it could be challenging. I had olives at my last place...

    Homemade lotion

Thanks! :) I will defo try that basic foot scrub cos I have all of that on hand. Im not that into it to get new gadgets at this stage, everything is very small scale for me hehe. What do you use to strain the plant material out? I always read about "cheesecloth" in online recipes but I have no...

    9/11

I'm not from the US but this was such a major event world wide, yet this year I hardly heard a peep about it in the media here. I cant ever forget either, even not having known anyone personally affected. Such a shocking act. USA seems a very different place today to what it was back then, it...

    Homemade lotion

Herbs are what I want to focus on, because they grow easier than most things here :p I'd love to make some jasmine lotion and was thinking of dumping some olive oil over a jar of blossoms, but reading this thread makes me realise I should probably try to dry the jasmine first as my every attempt...

    SS cafe

Cold snap here tonight. I went shopping early so I could start the fire. Drove back into town and saw the seafood van is here. Now regretting buying sausages from the co-op! I should really pay more attention to when these things come to town as I did really want some salmon, but I wont be able...

Sunflower oil came into my mind after I posted this :) That would be a much easier thing to grow in limited space. Probably all round a more versatile plant. I found a few infused oil ideas for the jasmine but I think I have already tried many of them with no luck so maybe I will just enjoy...

    Oils

Does any one here make their own oil for cooking or other things? Canola grows where I am and I wonder how much of it takes to make cooking oil. I also have some beautiful Jasmine in full flower right now and am interested in making that into some sort of aromatic oil for use for the lovely...

    Daisy - Dawdling towards Delicious

I'd die without air con here in the summer. My greatest fear is the thing breaking down. Getting repair men out here is a nightmare, and thats without the cost of it! I had little success with growing out of season, anything that did grow from seed is still tiny - but it does mean it is ready...

What did you do in the garden today?

I have been really busy lately and not able to get on the site the last few days with a "forbidden" message, so its nice to have a chance to catch up and post :) I got a new whipper snipper and gave it a good work out today. The grass had just shot up everywhere with the warmer weather and late...
