Sage has just turned two years old. We are not at our surgery fund goal yet, but thanks to everyone's help we are slowly getting there.
I thought it was time for an update on Sage and his condition. Since finding out that he has hip dysplasia I have been taking multiple precautions with him. We...
As many of you know I am still trying to raise funds for a hip replacement surgery for my Mobility Service Dog Sage.
I am also trying to do a clean out around this house before winter. In the cleaning process I have found a bunch of homesteading type books that might be of use to some...
I only marginally liked radishes for years, then I discovered that they are simply wonderful cooked!
Cooking them reduces a bit of the heat and sweetens them. My favorite recipe is to cream them much the same way as you would peas.
Radish tops are also wonderful cooked like spinach and...
I agree.
I don't think this has much to do with a death issue per say, but I DO see this as a desperate cry for attention and help. Something in this kiddo's world has changed and he is stressing out from it. I would open up and really try to tune in to him. See if you can find out what...
I kept one of the Cornish x hens like that. She was a really good layer too. I really had to watch her in the heat however, she had a hard time with it. When the experiment was over she was a FINE roasting hen as well. :drool
Thanks Morel. That is the City Biddy Double WIDE pasture coop. I raise my broilers in it and start my replacement pullets in it as well. I have even raised a half dozen turkeys in it. I sell the building plans for it on my website.
I agree with Bee. Your talent is a God given gift. I...
I agree about the secure movable tractor or pastured poultry coop. I would go one farther and use an electric wire or electric poultry netting around the entire thing in addition to the heavy duty run and coop. I did this for years. When used with a solar charger it really keeps the...
Here in Missouri and around the midwest we have lots of weight pull competitions, both for horses AND ponies. Competitive pulling animals are not your typical plow horses, however most are tempered more like a race horse! Since we have these competitions however work harness of all sizes is...
Well my main reason to upcycle/repurpose and recycle is easy ... I am CHEAP!
Where else could I get a metal roof that would last as long as that one will for the price of a few nails??
:D
As for the other coop, I think I was as excited to use up all of the old lumber bits and bobs...
My personal chicken coop the City Biddy Hen House (just like the building plans I sell on my website) is made from about 80% recycled materials. Basically I cleaned out the garage when I built my coop!
It looks a little rough using only the used lumber, but it was CHEEP! (get it...
There were about five houses, besides mine, in our neighborhood last year with front yard veg patches. They have started a community garden in out area as well.
I would probably install a heavy post or two and a cattle rub. If you give them someplace nice to rub and scratch, the cows would probably be more inclined to leave the fruit trees alone. ;)
