    Hello from the Pocono Mountains

I meant From out of state. Because of all the problems with the emrald ash beetle they'd really restricted moving wood from state to state even in some cases of processed lumber. It was originally only supposed to affect things like firewood and importing saplings. But you know the nature of...

    Hello from the Pocono Mountains

Ok. They're pretty strict about importing wood from out of state. I imagine I could get it from a big box store or something here. But those "specality woods" are super expensive.

    Hello from the Pocono Mountains

Well you joined before me. But hi. Welcome to the forum. Question about your raised beds. Are you using pressure treated lumber or untreated?

What did you do to save $ today?

Ten bucks a bottle is more than fair given what I had into it. Heck. Using store bought strawberries and grapes my cost is like 40 bucks for a 5 gallon run. You get 5 bottles out of a gallon. Once ya remove solids you're only out a gallon from that 5 gallon run. Factor in a buck for the bottle...

What did you do to save $ today?

I feel dirty. It's been a while since I've been to this farmers market. Talk about inflated prices and a large corporate presence. But there were a few good folks there and was money to be made. Sold 25 bottles of wine.

    Food plots.

The Mississippi is right around 15 miles as the crow flies from where we are. You will see some of the younger does and bucks stick around over the winter. But the older ones leave. Leaving the younger to go hungry and get picked off by the growing coyote population and other larger predators...

    Food plots.

Mini. We have thousands of acres of farm land around us. And while that is good food for them during the summer and early fall, as soon as it's harvested much of the wildlife leaves and heads to the bottoms down by the river.

Even with all the nasty stuff they do their mouths are still very clean. Or cleaner than Adam Savage's mouth anyway. Lol.

And I can respect that. We are certainly all entitled to our own opinions. I used to have that same mentality. But a drastic life changing event occurred and it cost me dearly.

    Firearms for the Homestead

I don't agree with that mentality. But I can understand it. I have a couple friends which I call vegetarian light. They don't hunt but do plan for home defense. It's their belief that animals are innocent and only doing what comes natural to them. Wheras humans are sentient beings capable of...

    Dog poo

Thank you. I'm not advocating using it as a direct fertilizer. But rather composting it with the rest of the stuff. The bad stuff is supposed to be killed during the composting process. Though if you have something for me to read that says otherwise I'd love to give it a look. I'm always...

    SS challenge! - 100+ steps to self-sufficiency

This isn't an addition. Just reinforcing keeping stuff frozen. Years ago when we moved from NC back to iowa daddy loaded his deepfreezes with ice to make sure his meat kept during the two day haul in July. But when we got back the power to our house still hadn't been turned on. Took two more...

    Dog poo

I hope that everyone knows that was a tongue in cheek comment about the baby poo. I do want babies. Lots of babies. But I wanna be all set up and stable first. My mom and dad started very young. And it's true that I was out of the house by the time they were in their thirties, the early part of...
