@Flying J, I love the. . . um, er, scenery on your homestead lands. Blue has always been my favorite color.
I am so glad we can chat in private, for I fear the drool and the green demon (jealousy) in my eyes would be rather off-putting in person. I do so LOVE that machine of yours.
Sorry I can't be of help, but I wanted you to know I would have tried helping if I had any idea about your Universal 2 grinder. I figure you did a search for instructions, but have you looked for a "Grinder Group" on line somewhere? There may be folks who discuss their food grinding adventures...
We have two newer members with a birthday today. Wishing them all the best today and for many more birthdays to come.
@cindyflory, I'm so glad you joined. Stop by for a chat now and then.
@mother, have a great day -- from a grandmother who loves meeting new cyber-friends -- and don't be a...
It's that time of year again! The garden is being put to bed, the colorful leaves are carpeting the woodland floor and @Norman is having a birthday. Nope, Canada is not far enough away to hide from your friends here on SS on this day.
I hope your birthday day is a great one filled with family...
:frow How-dee, @creativetwinszoo! :frow Happy to make your acquaintance here on SS. Recycling is a good way to reduce our footprint on Mother Earth and every step toward self-sufficiency brings up closer to the way Nature intended us to live well.
:yaWelcome home. Stop by often and make...
Probably butternuts as well. The only way I can tell walnut from butternut trees -- before they set fruit -- is by crushing the leaves and smelling them. Butternuts have a buttery smell.
Welcome, @Tuco! You can go a long way toward self-sufficiency with a vacant lot or large yard in the city. You don't need a lot of acreage to reap the rewards of gardening, canning, enriching your spot on the Earth. Stop by often and we'll chat about doing big things in small spaces.
Hickory nuts are a pain to crack and remove, but delicious when used in any recipe just like walnuts. I think the hickory nuts taste a bit more buttery.
LATER: Or was that my butternuts I'm remembering. Either way, hickory nuts are well worth the work 'freeing' them from their shells. I like...
:thumbsup We have two members with a birthday today. :love@derelime and :love@Ktsgirl! I wish you both the best of days and remind you to stop by more often for a chat on your journey toward self-sufficiency.
@Logcrafts,:celebrate I wish you the happiest of birthdays :celebratetoday and for many more to come.
:idunnoThe site has been pretty quiet lately. Why not stop by now and then for a chat and photos of your craft work.:ya
I am living proof that it never hurts to try. We put a bid on a property that the real estate agent said was lower than bids the owner had turned down. Our luck, the man's uncle had just passed and left him what wealth he'd had. The man took our offer, just happy to have the house sold.
Given the flexibility, I would have different answers to many of the questions. For someone already living in a rural area with smaller towns around rather than big urban spaces, the problems may not be the same. For someone with space for foraging and hunting as well as a spring fed water...
You had an outdoor living room before they were trendy!
You represent the "hippies" of the group. To you, survival is about making your own clothes, building your own home, foraging for your food, and in all other possible ways being “at one” with our mother earth. You have learned a...
Be honest, now. I'll bet when you married you never thought you could get so excited over having running water in the barn. Oh, how our priorities change as we seek self-reliance and sufficiency!
