Britesea - Living the good life in rural Oregon

i think you are right to give your friend some space and after things calm down she will be more appreciative of some company. I'm also trying to clean out my pantry and turn it back into a pantry instead of a storage room. horrible job and sadly i admit that its all my fault that it looks...

Making the most out of a small space

agree with the girls, vertical is the way to go with gardens. i put lots of things in tubs and surround the tub with heavy wire, mine is concrete reinforcing wire so it is strong enough to stand alone. i plant tomatoes, beans, squash and anything else that will climb. potatoes in a deep...

What are you all doing to prepare for winter?

@frustratedearthmother I'm kind of like you, i feel like a slacker next to these gals. I've gotten the winter hay in for the girls. propane tank is full. steer butchered, last of the rabbit growouts butchered. number of sheep and goats lessened and that's about it. still overrun with...

    Ant colony control?

I've used the boric acid/sugar mix and it does work well. i have also read if you mix peppermint oil and water and spray the mound and area they will be gone. don't know if it works or not but i thought i would try it the next time i need an ant killer. we have fire ants here and at one...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

i did build a tiny house after i retired and most of the time i just love it. one bedroom, bath, pantry and living room kitchen combo with a vaulted ceiling to make it feel bigger. unfortunately i made the mistake of getting a sofa that makes into a queen sized bed and that's where DD and SIL...

    Best foodstuff to stockpile?

SIL was talking this weekend about PVC pipe for caches. he wants to fill some, tie a rope to them and sink them in the pond. i understand they are sealed and suppose to be water proof but i would be concerned about moisture anyway. made me go hummm. i would be ok with burying them but...

well the kids were here over the weekend and all went well. nothing broken or run over, lol. we went to town on Saturday and just fiddled around. ate at a Mexican place that is usually good and it was really horrible. oh well, at least we didn't have to cook. got the 7 grow out bunnies...

hqueen's collection of Far From the Usual stuff.

i would give those yellow jackets the barn. they scare the puddin' out of me. i guess you could wait till the dark of night and burn the barn down. ok maybe that's not an option but i agree with deb, it may be time to call a professional before someone or something gets hurt. DS#1 had a huge...

Someday Farm, yup someday it will all be just the way i want it..........

@Mini Horses I've been thinking about the nursing thing a lot. i can make in one day what i would have to work 3 days for. call me lazy or realize that i don't want to be away from home that much. was thinking i could find somewhere to work every other weekend. but first I'm going to take...

    Best foodstuff to stockpile?

you little dirt diggers need to remember that what ever you bury needs to be water tight and a chest freezer and a cooler neither one are. i have used chest freezers to grow winter greens in and they work really well. i took off the door and replaced it with an old glass shower door. worked great

What are you all doing to prepare for winter?

@Mini Horses i lived in wv for about 17 years and loved it there. would probably have stayed but couldn't deal with seeing my x with his new girlfriend. small town and there was no way not to. so i tucked tail and headed back to Arklahoma. i was in the Buckhannon/Weston area and that is...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

i found that out the hard way. i'll just go thru a hatchery to get the chicks i want. I'm not a fancy chicken kind of girl anyway. in fact when i order from murry mcmurry they always send an 'exotic mystery chick', this year it is a buff polish hen. she is cute as can be but I'm going to...

glad things went well with your mom. wise to get some help for your brother and your parents too. that's a hard job 24/7 I've had the same problem with shipped eggs or even eggs that i picked up from someone's farm. my farm eggs just pop out like popcorn but the others didn't hatch well at...
