    What's for dinner?

I grind raisins up in the blender so the Wildbunch doesn't pick them out of muffins and cookies. I added the leftover chicken noodle soup from lunch to the potato soup for supper. Might good stuff! DD ask me what kind of noodles I add to potato soup. I had to laugh. I told her what I'd done. ;)

    What's for dinner?

I'm making potato soup. I took DS (12) to the doctor this a.m.. He has a respiratory viral thing going on. So home for a couple of days. She said to try and keep him away from everyone else because of the coughing. He is the only one with his own room so that's easy enough but he doesn't like...

    Need some “good housekeeping” info

Our house is never clean either. When you have a housefull of people and critters you just can't have it clean all the time. It helps when everyone goes to school or work because then I can really clean but if anyone is home I don't get as much done. I make my own all-purpose cleaner that saves...

    Uses for Rolled Oats

I grind it and use it as a breading. Either oat or half/half oat and flour. I use whole oats making meatloaf or meatballs. I like the texture better than breadcrumbs, also in veggie burgers. I use leftover oats in muffins. I also grind oats and add to pancake batter. It does make it heavier but...

    Chicken Soup - It's Time

So much can be done with chicken broth. I'm boiling a rabbit carcass to make some dumplings for supper tonight. Everyone is enjoying the smells.

    Need some “good housekeeping” info

I try to get the mess as soon as it happens but if you don't then we scrub with a magic eraser (generic). I too like to line with foil. I hate to see a dirty stove, right now my teenager made the deal with his dad that he will clean the kitchen every night if we let him stay after school and...

    WHAT ARE YOU CANNING TODAY?

It takes a lot of people working to do it but it is a real blessing in these times. Our community is a very poor one and Tyson is the main employer. The wages are lower here than anywhere else but at least it's a paycheck. Walmart just closed but we are learning we can live without it. Several...

    WHAT ARE YOU CANNING TODAY?

As most know my church is great at blessing us with and the community with fresh produce. Last week it was russet potatoes, roma tomatoes, huge papayas, sweet mini peppers, mixed fruit, cherries, mustard greens, spinach, and fresh herbs. I dehydrated the herbs, canned spaghetti sauce with the...

The house we moved to has pecan and black walnut trees in the back yard. Every day I go out and pick up what's dropped.

    Good country shop video

I would love a shop like that. My granddad inlaw had a shop and hung his tools on pegboard and then paint the whole shebang bright orange. When something wasn't in the empty spot he knew exactly what was missing. Anyone in the shop could easily put back the tools to the right spot. Also the...

    What's for dinner?

You can freeze soup plain and then add the creams, milk, etc. We had red beans and rice for supper and I'm cooking more beans today with green chilies, onion and garlic. Just in the mood for beans. DH and the Wildbunch will complain about it but oh well, I'm the one cooking. I've been cooking...

I love the idea of vacuum sealing important papers. Texas is showing us you can never be too prepared.

    SS challenge! - 100+ steps to self-sufficiency

You're right about being prepared for emergencies. I was stung in the backyard this morning by some yellow jackets while letting my dog do her business. If I had been allergic to stings then it would be really tough to deal with in a SHTF scenario. It was bad enough with the pain without that...

hqueen's collection of Far From the Usual stuff.

I hear roosters crow all day long here in town. I'm thinking the town doesn't really enforce the no rooster ordinance unless someone complains.
