Nice Bee!
Once the snow clears in the spring I'm going to get my DH to take the truck one day and grab the pallets by his work. Most aren't good quality and have broken under the weight of our stacked wood. So we need more!
With you Bee.
If only someone would just come and lay that plan out for me I'd be happy to follow it! :D
Any chance I got today I was trying to make decisions on my garden plan. I have no idea how much of each I should plant so I'm winging it I guess. My "clay garden" is the work in progress...
Ha, it's the idea of being organized. Whether or not I actually do organize is yet to be seen. But the intention is there...
I want to get some plans established this year, as we're hoping to have a new addition sometime next year and I'll be in the same boat you are now.
Manageable is good!
My dad needs my plant amounts for starting seeds, so I've got to do some calculations on my different beds.
I finally decided on the new garden space is going to be 20"rows and 20"paths.
I'd like to do some succession planting this year, either of the same crop or different. So that probably...
Parsnips are pretty common here, but not necessarily something people normally use. In the grocery store I think they're about twice the price as carrots. I've only bought them at the farmers market, usually to use in roasted veggies. But I think I've made soup with them before.
I'm having a hard time imagining you up and about so soon! I guess it's because with my first I had an episiotomy and was in a lot of pain. I'm glad things are going well, and have fun with the shopping! :)
I like the place I go to. It's a little over an hour drive but I figure that's great in terms of travel time for the chicks. They operate out of their house but keep tight bio-security.
Last year it seemed things were a little disorganized which is understandable for a mom and pop operation...
That's totally SS @Beekissed , you're just refining what you already have :)
Oh @NH Homesteader , that sounds really interesting! I think it would be fun to come up with ways to change their pen area.
Agreed, my plan was three years of trying many breeds, and then working towards a sustainable flock.
With these new chicks I'll have 11 different breeds in my flock.
Yup, same here, though I've had pretty good luck getting some freshly laid. I've got a collection going in the freezer that I'm going to cook up and feed back to the birds.
Nice goals @Mini Horses, so is 2020 the goal to farm full time? That reminds me of another concrete goal I have.
1) Sell eggs. Doesn't matter how many, but I want to get that ball rolling to see if there's interest. This also ties in with tracking expenses.
I do also have the garden goals like...
I only have chickens, and like Britesea I got birds that would be able to withstand the cold. Even with the -40 temps (not in their coop mind you because there's no wind) they're doing fine.
I use a heated dog bowl because I wouldn't be able to keep up with the freezing otherwise.
I don't do...
Happy 2018!
In the spirit of New Years resolutions I thought I'd open it up to our members to share their goals for the 2018 year on how they would like to improve their self-sufficiency.
To really work on accomplishing something, the best goals are specific. For instance, the old new years...
