Well the geese came back today. Swam a little bit in the pond then walked around the property checking everything out. Looking for a good spot to make a nest maybe? Then later on there was a great blue heron standing by the pond. That's the most bird activity I've seen on the pond since we moved...
X2 on the bacon! :drool We already have the deep freeze full of venison, turkey, rabbit, and catfish that we get off the property throughout the year. We eat about two deer a year and anything extra we have we give to my parents next door. They already said when I get ready to raise a cow or pig...
I wish I had a pig, and a cow ready to be processed right now.
I went to the grocery store earlier to get some pork chops for supper. Came home fired up the grill and went to open the pork chops to get them seasoned. Ugh!:sick They stunk soooo bad! They looked ok in the package and had a sell...
I could trade you an annoying beagle pup who apparently likes to chase geese for the two you have. My hubby and the kiddos wouldn't be too happy with me though. Especially the hubby. The pup was supposed to be the kids pet but he ended up being the hubby's best buddy. Going to have to break him...
I'm getting ducks in a couple of weeks and I've been trying to convince the hubby that we need 2 geese as well. He just about had me convinced to wait until next year to get them since we are getting so many other animals this year and then look who showed up in my pond this morning!!!!
Who...
Oh dear :hugs I haven't gotten all the way through your journal yet but I think I read where your hubby was an alcoholic? It's always hard to know what to do in that kinda situation. My hubby's father was a bad alcoholic right up till the day he died. His mom used to be a heavy drinker also but...
Bad news.....
Before I went to bed last night I checked on my chicks. All seemed well. They were all running around playing and eating. The brooder and water were clean. I get up this morning to find the chicks had nearly filled both waterers with pine chips. Then I see the pasty butt.... I...
Got my chicks in the mail today!:celebrate:weee:love
They are so much fun to watch. Even though it got really cold last night they all arrived heathy and happy. They're all settled in the brooder eating, drinking and doing what ever it is chicks do. I could probably sit and watch them all day...
Oh no! I've had flurries all day here too but it's stopped and after tonight's cold weather between 12-18 degrees its supposed to start warming up again. Hope your snow melts quickly!
Oh let me know if that works! ive got furring strips and plastic in the garage and christmas lights in the attic that i could use. Me and the hubby are still trying to brainstorm and haven't come up with much other than toying with the idea of sawdust. Put it on the floor and maybe it would heat...
Chickens for me, you, and everyone else!
Well my chicks are on the way! There was one small hiccup, one of the breeds I wanted didn't hatch but the hatchery had another breed I wanted so they substituted them.
I guess our enthusiasm for raising chickens and planting a garden is rubbing off on...
I know how you feel :hugs we aren't supposed to get any this week but you never know. Oh, and fair warning if you ever decide to move to Kentucky.
This is probably the most accurate thing ever spoken about Kentucky!
Thanks! We too are still trying to find a cost effective way to heat our greenhouse. Please let me know how that heater works out if you decide to make one. That seems like a project right up my hubby's alley.... It was so nice last weekend we decided to start a few seeds, and now it's turned...
Thanks I was pretty happy with the way it turned out, now hopefully I can get some things to grow....:fl
Yes the outside wood burner does require electricity. It hooks up to our furnace but it will save us money since we can cut wood from our land. Lots of people, including us, ran out of...
January - March 2014
What I've accomplished so far....
In Jan I ordered chicks, ducks and guineas. I've never raised chickens before (but my husband has) so I ordered a few different breeds to see that I like. I'm getting them primarily for eggs right now but may raise for meat in the future...
Hello Gina! I don't have a well on my property however my property borders my parents property which is a little over 100 acres with a well on it, that I have unlimited access to. I do have outbuildings on my property. I just turned one old outbuilding into a chicken coop! I have plans on...
