Got it free - whatever it is??

Saw a tree service at a house in town cutting down a huge tree and asked then what they were doing with the chips. They asked me what my address was and said they'd be over later

    New Duckling

To be fair there usually isn't snow on the ground this early into the season. When I lived in Missoula MT I felt like it snowed every Sept 14th and that was the beginning of winter

    New Duckling

It's funny and irritating at the same time. Luckily my irrigation guy was able to blow my tree farm lines before this hit. I still have tons of stuff to clean up though.

    New Duckling

Been so busy with tree farm work closing out the season and then at least 6 inches of snow today.

    New Duckling

Sadly, it died. One morning it was fine and then later that day I found its little body in the tall grass. I couldn't tell you what we were feeding it. My wife has some powder she would or would have me mix into water that was in a 12" plant tray with rocks. The little one would drink...

    Kennel Covers

Or until my wife says "what do you think about moving the entire chicken run back 15 or 20 feet?"

Yeah, I'm in Minnesota, so snow for sure. I know what you mean about time; wife & 5 kids. Sometimes that means I get help.

My hair is pretty short, but that chicken wire sagged just enough, partly because we didn't stretch it enough in the first place, that it scraped the scalp anyways. Yeah, I hope it helps with snow pack in the run. We wrap the run in tarps for winter too.

    Kennel Covers

So we have 400 sq ft of cyclone fenced run that all the ladies and dudes go into at night, then they can decide which coop to hang out in. My only issue with it is the height. I'm quite the average height (5' 9" and whatever) and since this run is only 6" high that means at any point where the...

    Broody Biddies EVERYWHERE

OK. So I was out collecting eggs today and remembered Peg sitting in that food coop on top of those fake eggs. Having essentially ignored her since she started this, many many weeks ago, minus one attempt at slipping a real egg in there, which she promptly broke, I decided to try one more...

    New Duckling

One of the eggs hatched. Poor little guy/girl has a little issue with their left leg/foot though :( and I doubt there's anything I could do. But a baby duck is a baby duck :)

    2,4-D Temp Limitations

@Lazy Gardener This year, for the first time ever, I used permethrin. I hated it. I felt absolutely terrible. I knew I was killing a ton of insects I didn't want to, but the mosquitoes were so bad that I pulled the trigger and called a local guy to come spray. World of difference...

    2,4-D Temp Limitations

Sometimes. My question was a little time sensitive since the forecast for the following few days was all mid to high 90s and only dropping into the mid 80s at night. So I was curious around the "why" I read a few reviews of folks saying that when they tried it over the suggested Temps they...

What did you do in the garden today?

The clucks and quacks got some apples today

    Peking Lost Her Eggs :(

I hope that's the case. The first duck was REALLY upset about her eggs being gone.

    Peking Lost Her Eggs :(

Snake was in my thoughts too, but our location in Minnesota just doesn't scream hognose or bullsnake, but maybe I should check some habitat maps.

    Peking Lost Her Eggs :(

We have a few Pekings, both boys and girls, and about three weeks back one of the ladies had made a nest out in the thistle in their run (10k sq ft fenced in area) and though it pained us with worry we let her stay out there at night instead of forcing her into the protected run with all the...

What did you do in the garden today?

I see them every year on my property and they always make me shudder.

What did you do in the garden today?

I avoided the orb weaver stretched between my tomatoes :(
