    Solutions for a pecker

We have 13 chickens that are currently laying and another 10 that will be soon. Of those 13 we only get about 3-4 eggs a day because some asshat of a cluckler has gotten a taste for pecking the eggs in the past few months :( We tried some ceramic eggs to help, but that hasn't done anything and...

    Owning your own business

I am in my first year of starting a tree farm. I have spent about $2500 so far and won't see a dime for at least another 6 months when I'll do my first sales to my local national park, city natural resources department and to another non-profit. A garden center would be fun, but yeah, you...

ISO - Modifying Cart to be able to tow

Pin hitch :) Thanks. I'll check that out. Figured I'd ask here to see if anyone's done this or something similar

ISO - Modifying Cart to be able to tow

So my wife and kids got me a new garden cart for hauling stuff around. Yay!! However, I'm looking to modify the handle to be able to hook it up to my garden tractor, but I'm not sure what it is I'm looking for. The cart comes with a normal pull handle, but I'm looking to tow it bwhind my...

    New Steps in the Garden

That is a beautiful job!!! Very rewarding :) I wish I could find the pictures right now but a few years back we built a staircase on a VERY cold (teens °) November day a few years back in an outdoor classroom. We had to even use a huge electric blanket to warm the soil we would dig next...

    DIY Compost Bin ideas

I built some bins last summer. They're functional but I learned some lessons: 1) Make the gate higher, so snow doesn't get in the way 2) figure out a better way to make it sturdy. The walls just aren't as solid as I want, so keeping a tight close on all of them isn't consistent 3) maybe do...

Chicken run - work smarter, not harder

So we're expanding our chicken run from 100 sq ft to 400 sq ft and was busy over the weekend building out the predator protection (wire over the top and down into the ground). Anyways, the hardware cloth was in rolls 3' x 10', so I started with digging a trench, rolling out the cloth into...

Support bar for top of run

Well.... In the famous words of Adam Sandler "that information would have been useful to me yesterday" as I already ordered some online. I didn't get to Lowe's since I was running tons of other errands :(

Support bar for top of run

The whole reason I want to put the bars there is to make the structure more sturdy and to put hardware cloth across the top, like with our other run section

Support bar for top of run

Home depot, tractpr supply and Menards all looked at my pictures and said they dpnt carry any t-joint like that. I'll try Lowe's next

Support bar for top of run

They are kennel kits. We had the idea of getting pipe and cutting it to size, but still need to find the names of the t-brackets at the end The original one on the property was a single 10x10. We just bought two more a few weeks ago to make it larger

Support bar for top of run

Hey everyone, so we expanded our coop run a bit for our growing flock :) and want to put some support bars on the top like we have for the original run, but they're tricky to find. The original run was already on the property when we bought it, we just moved it for our coop when we got here, so...

    Show me your walls

I liked the metal idea but I don't have the time to fiddle with working with metal right now, since it's not in my wheelhouse and I need this in the next week I got a bunch of lumber and did this today :) Still need to make a back gate and install some tie down d-rings, etc... But this will...

    Show me your walls

Removable was a given ;). There are pull out ramps in the back as this trailer was meant for cars. I was planning on making some panels from some plywood that can quickly attach to those ramps to make a solid ramp, but that isn't necessary right away

    Show me your walls

Yeah, normally i'd keep away from PT but for this application it makes sense. This won't be used for animals. Just equipment, lumber and other things like that

    Show me your walls

Huh. I could see building a slight frame with 2x4s and doing that across the center. Nice option!!!

    Show me your walls

I was thinking wood just so there was less chance of things finding their way out, despite efforts to tie down. But I'm open to options. What's expanded metal?

    Show me your walls

... Of your trailer!!! I recently picked up this beauty of a 16' trailer. I know I could have gone for a shorter utility trailer but I don't have endless cash and I qanted one trailer that could haul some long lumber or some heavy stuff. Anyways, I want to build some walls for it but...

Seeding grass in previous corn field

I was planning on waiting until a day when a rain was in the forecast ;) I don't have the option for pasturing pigs, horses or cows. We don't even have a barn right now and no adjoining farms have any of those animals. I didn't evwn think of the extension, which is hilarious since I'm a...
