Pink Fox: its Raining...IN MY HOUSE! :/

Another option for meat breeds is to do a cross. I like a NZ crossed with a Satin. You get the fur quality of the satin with the litter and body size of the NZ. They make very pretty babies and nice pelts. Good meat to bone ratio at a younger age....slaughter at 8 to 12 weeks. Winter pelts are...

    Neighbor's well.......too close?

Yeah, I would just do my best to assure her that you won't use any chemicals and fence the heck out of it. It's on YOUR property so do what YOU want.

    Lorihadams-- hi guys...been busy!

So I have spent this past week really watching Aliana and I think that maybe Tally was cycling and she was responding to her cause she had ZERO response to the buck rag all week and only one day of discharge so maybe it was a fluke and she is pregnant after all. I still have not seen babies...

Pink Fox: its Raining...IN MY HOUSE! :/

Sweetie they are gorgeous! Rowan reminds me of a smaller version of my buck Midnight. Same coloring. They really are too cute and I can't wait to see how the breedings go with them.

2dreams - Its Spring In Mississippi w/pallet bed pic

:hugs I know it is hard and I know that you are, in a way, happy that his suffering has ended. My thoughts are with you honey. It's never easy to lose someone you love but at least you know that he won't be in pain anymore. :hugs

Hunting for food...does it justify the cost?

I shot 3 deer off the porch....2 when I was pregnant with my daughter and one when I was pregnant with my son. They wouldn't let me climb up in a tree so I took what I could get. :D

I need a housewarming gift for a newbie

Why not give them a gift basket with a loaf of bread, jam and a copy of a favorite cookbook or Storey's Guide to raising chickens? Just tell her that when she is ready to go with the chickens and has a coop built then you will get her a couple chickens then.

Hunting for food...does it justify the cost?

I was thinking more along the lines of asking to hunt WITH someone on their property...like in the same blind. We have taken lots of newbies with us in our two man blinds and it did wonders for their confidence in the woods. It is very calming to have someone sitting there next to you to...

    Lorihadams-- hi guys...been busy!

Well...still no babies so I either wrote the date down wrong (totally possible) or she isn't pregnant. I dunno. I put the red doe in with the black buck yesterday afternoon and since they are used to being together I just left them in together overnight. She's the one that had 7 the day before...

Hunting for food...does it justify the cost?

We have public land here too. My husband has also gotten a few requests to bow hunt residential areas where deer are a problem for "city folk" and guns aren't permitted. If you haven't hunted before then you may want to talk to neighbors that do and ask if you can go with them to learn more...

Rathbone: Eggs for Hatching, Eggs for Eating, Eggs, Eggs, Eggs

Wow...we tend to like our salsa thicker with more tomato paste as a base. I haven't been able to get homemade salsa "right" yet. It seems too watery for our tastes. I don't know if I need to cook it down more or add more tomato puree. :hu or do something to thicken it up.

    Lorihadams-- hi guys...been busy!

Well, I wrote everything down, labeled everything, did everything in front of her and she still screwed it up. I just won't let her watch them again. I even put individual measuring cups in each bin so she only had to reach in and scoop. I did it with her, her husband, and 14 yr old daughter...

    Tolerating/Explaining/Surviving in the "real world"

Okay...first off, I think everyone is going to get lost in all the complicated rambling/wording of your question. That being said, I think that fear is a powerful emotion and sometimes it is best used to your advantage. Not that I'm saying you have to put fear into the hearts of people as a...

    Lorihadams-- hi guys...been busy!

I put hay in the feeder in front of her and told her that she probably wouldn't even need to bother with the straw at all and even showed her where I cut a new bale of hay for her cause she should have finished the bale I had already started for them. When I went to lock up everyone last night...

    Hope this works! Update!

We have to take a hunter safety course if you are a juvenile hunting alone. I took a course when I was 16 and got my card but it has long since been lost. Most people here don't bother with the course but if you are under 18 then you have to show the card if you are buying your own license...

Hunting for food...does it justify the cost?

Okay...we hunt on our own property so I don't have to technically get a license. Here in this county we are allowed to hunt on our own land or family's land and check the deer as "landowner" deer. We usually don't even check them to be honest. I haven't bought red meat in over 4 years. We spent...

starting over - a little background

Welcome honey! Good to have you here...what kind of chickens are you gonna have? I'm getting ready to order chicks...I just warned the hubby...he rolled his eyes but then was better about it when I told him I was gonna get rid of the rooster he hates when the chicks get here. :P

    Lorihadams-- hi guys...been busy!

So we got back home from the beach yesterday evening and I discovered after being attacked by my goats, that my neighbor apparantly doesn't know the difference between HAY and STRAW. She's been feeding all the bunnies and my goats straw for the last 4 days. I'm hoping that the hay I put in the...

    Lorihadams-- hi guys...been busy!

WOW. I am awestruck that anyone would bother to read my entire journal....I haven't even sat down and read my entire journal. I'm kinda afraid to, afraid I may go back and change something to keep from embarrassing myself. Thank you for caring enough to read about my life...start a...
