    Emergency candles on the cheap

ORChick, you are brilliant. I have a bunch of candle bits and was debating how to put them all together, and you just saved me a lot of trial and error!

Help with natural vision improving herbs or diet

I have a friend who swore by eyebright. I had never heard of it. It's in the vitamins section of your local drugstore, pretty cheap if I recall correctly. I don't even know what it is, some sort of herb. You can google it. It's supposed to help with vision.

What do you do with the whey?

I made some of that fantastic ricotta cheese, which turned out wonderful...but now I have all this stuff that looks like lemonade left over...I am new to this, but I've heard that whey is really good for you. I don't want to throw it out. Any ideas?!

America in Decline (Mr. Sunshine Strikes Again)

It doesn't really bother me about the average amount of wealth per citizen, etc. I don't really care if another country is as wealthy or wealthier than we are. In fact, I'm happy for them...why should we always be number one in everything? What worries me are the things about jobs and the trade...

    WHAT ARE YOU CANNING TODAY?

I canned some chicken spread yesterday. Basically I made a gigantic batch of chicken soup, with lots of veggies, then took all the chicken off the bones and put it and the veggies in a food processor, chopped until they were kind of like hamburger. Canned it. Now I have a great, nutritious...

Exercise, Diet and Trying to Lose Weight...

I'm sitting here wishing I had you'all's bodies!! I'm 50 pounds overweight, and have never been able to lose ONE POUND in my life. I've done low-carb, low-fat, everything under the sun. I have never drunk sodas (skim milk all my life), don't do processed foods much, ONLY do whole grains, try to...

    Wood furnaces?

We have a wood stove insert in our fireplace, but I was just reading about a woman who has a wood furnace. I had never heard of it, but my electric furnace is on its last legs, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how feasible a wood furnace is? It looks like you just hook it up to your duct...

    Interesting recipes

Since I've gotten more into the self-sufficient lifestyle, my sister ordered a book for me, called "Country Wisdom and Know-how...Everything you know to live off the land." It's a very large (the size of a newspaper) paperback, and it's full of all the self-sufficient stuff anyone could ask for...

In case of emergency, please remove your bra

Well, dang, I have a mastectomy bra. If I tried that, I'd whack myself in the face...! Although, come to think of it, I'd rather just die than breathe through my bra after I'd been wearing it!!

    lingering cough

I've been there, too, Beekissed! I had whooping cough this past summer. The way to tell, according to my doctor, is that with bronchitis, etc. you feel cruddy and mucus-y, etc. With whooping cough, after the first few days, you feel totally fine, except that a spasm of coughing hits and you pull...

    Is there anything better....?

I LOVE mine! It's dinky and not as efficient as some models I've drooled over, but it's the time of year when I annoy my kids by having them gather up kindling (we have a forest right behind our backyard). Some of the young men from our church came over this past week and delivered 3 truckloads...

How do i say goodbye to synthroid medication naturally.?

Honestly, Mackay, I don't remember! I do remember that she was very careful to aim everything just right, because there were a whole lot of organs that she was trying to avoid frying. And when I asked her if the thyroid could have been damaged, she was indignant and insisted "not at all, that's...

Do any of you go WITHOUT health insurance? By choice?

What makes me sad is that so many people with serious health problems are forced to keep working because they will lose their insurance. I have stage IV cancer, but fortunately I'm still able to be up and around. But others I know of can barely get out of bed due to extreme pain, chemo, etc. I...

Do any of you go WITHOUT health insurance? By choice?

Five years ago I went without insurance for the first and only time in my life. I was 39 and in excellent health, never smoked or drank alcohol, exercised regularly, figured it was only for about 18 months. And in that 18 months, I got cancer. Full treatment of cancer is about $125 thousand. I...

    maple syrup

I'm in Virginia. I think it gets cold enough in January and February. I have a maple tree in my yard that I've made fun of for a long time...it's certainly wide enough (a foot or so) but it rises more like a stick than a maple tree. I joked that it doesn't produce fruit, is only so-so for shade...

How do i say goodbye to synthroid medication naturally.?

I appreciate this thread because I come at it from a different angle. I had breast cancer 5 years ago, then a year ago I got thyroid cancer. My thyroid was riddled with cancer and had to be removed. Fortunately, that's healed, although the breast cancer has come back and is now in my bones. I am...

    maple syrup

Hi, I'm brand new here, and was wondering if anybody makes their own maple syrup. I live in the suburbs with a backyard that abuts a forest. I was looking at the maple trees and wondering how feasible it would be to make maple syrup in the spring. Anyone do it? I am a sufficient-self wanna be...
