    cockchafers!

Cute skunks! My grandfather had one as a pet as a kid- he said it was orphaned, and it was quite similar to having a cat!

    cockchafers!

We had a skunk problem last year because of our grubby lawn- they dug all kinds of holes trying to get at them! I'll keep letting the chickens in the garden for the time being- they are not going to be happy whenthe fence goes up!

    cockchafers!

$1500?? I'm thinking that option is off the table for me! I'll have to stick with chickens and DE for grub control. Has anyone here ever used beneficial nematodes?

    cockchafers!

Oh yeah, they did a number on my potatoes last year. Not only did I decide to harvest early so no further damage would be done, but they had gotten to a good amount of them already- I have a photo of some of the most minor damage- a found a lot though where half of the potato was gone/gross...

    cockchafers!

everything is pretty wet/moist right now...I'll check out the BT. I've been turning over the soil by hand and letting the chickens in the garden, so I am hoping they have been eating whatever grubs they find!

    Hi from Maine!

I have read that what the goats eat can cause a difference in taste...more weeds and such make a stronger taste I guess?? I see that this site can be addicting! I am a big fan of the backyardchickens website, and have made some great friends there!

    cockchafers!

I'll tell you what, you won't ever hear me swear as much as when I go into the garden and find some bug has been eatting my veggies! I let spiders live in my house, and catch and release other bugs that get in, but if it's eatting my produce, it's going down! I find it quite rude ;)

    cockchafers!

I don't know of any reason why not, not sure why I hadn't thought about this before- I've got a big bag or organic/food grade in the shed that I use to sprinkle in the chicken coop- I have not ever used it in the garden- suggestions about how much to use?

    Hi from Maine!

That's really neat! Are you drinking the milk? How is the taste difference as compared with cow's milk? I know a lady around here who makes and sells yogurt- cow and goat- but I've never tried the goat!

    Yogurt!

    cockchafers!

Last year I had a pretty serious cockchafer( big nasty grub, looks like stag beetle larva) issues with my potatoes. I lost close to 25% of my harvest because of them. Has anyone here had experience with them before, and do you have any organic/natural solutions? I plan obviously to plan the...

    acne remedies

Someone a while back mentioned tea tree oil- I suffer from adult acne, and have tried a lot of things, including benzoil peroxide from the doctor, with some help- I do find though that tea tree oil is great in reducing the redness and helping blemishes dry up and heal faster!

    Hi from Maine!

Hi Nancy! I made the yogurt using a warm oven. I turned it on low (200 degrees) for about 5 minutes and then turned it off. I also left the light on- the kept it warm enough for about 6 hours- I turned it on for about 10 seconds and turned it back off again, and it was enough heat for the rest...

    Hi from Maine!

I'm new to this forum, and live in central-ish Maine. I've got about 2.5 acres here, 8 hens and a rooster, a dog and 2 cats, and a 25x30ft garden for veggies. We plan on extending the garden a bit this year, and I really want to try some low tunnels to extend the growing season ( lord knows we...

    Yogurt!

Alright, update- the yogurt was a success this time! I left it in out for 11 hours instead of the 6-8 called for in the recipe, as I too prefer a more tangy yogurt, and then put it in the fridge- tasted it this AM and it's super, and nice and thick! I appreciate all of the other suggestions too!
