    My new project!

This is just a question, no offense meant. If you are using the 4flat, 4 prong plug, than you will not have trailer brakes. Just something to consider when you may have 5,000 plus pounds pushing you down the highway. I have been towing a trailer since I have had a DL, and sold them to boot...

What do you stock inyour pantry, that others may find odd?

Throttle Jockey, who ever said that a pantry had to just hold food? Mine holds lamp oil, OIl lamps, laundry soap, random things that need to be stored.

    Budweiser: It is Time.

Guess my original post didn't make it. Keep busy, and enjoy the life around you. Glad you have a place to garden, and the means to occupy some of your time. When I get bored, I get tupid, and that is not a good thing. Good luck.

    My new project!

Good for you. I see potential there. When you are working on your own stuff, in my opinion, the labor becomes irrelevant. Make him stick to it, and show you how. Only other advice I would add is to make sure you ground each light, etc. It is an extra wire, but will save many headaches down the...

What do you stock inyour pantry, that others may find odd?

This is an extension of another thread. It will be interesting to see what people keep on hand. One persons likes are another persons dislikes. I like to keep a variety of hot sauce on hand. Sometimes, a little goes a long way in making something palatable. Lets hear what you keep.

What are you stocking in the pantry?

Emerald, thanks for the opinion. My thinking is that the less room I put into the orchard, the bigger the garden can be. My3, the space is not exactly the problem, just want the most bang for the buck, so to speak. I will start a new thread about "weird" things in a pantry. Don't know what...

What are you stocking in the pantry?

I wouldn't say it went off topic, but thats just me. Sounds like a great orchard. I just scrounged some seed catalogs, and was looking through them to decide what trees to plant here at the new place. Kind of wondering if those 4-in1 trees would be any good. More variety in a smaller space. I...

    Shelf life of food

I honestly can't say that I was overly impressed by the list. Thanks for the info, but I will continue as usual.

What are you stocking in the pantry?

Noticed your "Oy" in there. Don't happen to be from Minnesota, do you? Give your soon to be Marine son my best, and I do wish him many safe returns, and a huge Thank You for his service. We do have some holes in our storage, that we are working on filling. We just moved to a new place, so we...

What are you stocking in the pantry?

My3sons, it does take a while, but it is better than money in the bank! As nice as it is to shop the case lot sales, the home canned sure is much prettier on the shelves, and tastes better. I love walking into the pantry, and knowing that we are close to being able to go a year without major...

older article but still we should be prepared---

Why would we want to learn from the past, when it is so much fun to do it all over again, when we are condemmend to repeat it? Life is a cycle that needs to be broken once in a while.

How much do you spend on food?

Interesting thread for me to read. Went from living in a 2 person household to a 5 person, over the course of a divorce, and a re marriage. Does make a huge difference. I won't include animal feed cocts, since around our house, they are all "babies," and pets. I know they eat a lot. If they...

    Please critique this!

Store what you eat, eat what you store. If you do this, rotation shouldn't be an issue. Buying 100 lbs of wheat makes no sense, if you don't bake, and have a wheat grinder. It is amazing how fast a stockpile can be built up by just buying 1 or 2 extras of something that you like, and use. Then...

What are you stocking in the pantry?

We store what we eat, and eat what we store. Both home canned, as well as store bought. Rotation is the key. Need to get more buckets, and GAMMA lids. Those things are the bomb. Easy in, easy to seal back up. If you don't know what they are, check them out. Well worth the money, buts thats just...

    propane generator

FWIW, I am going to look at the tri-fuel option. Propane, NG, or gas. Stored propane will never go bad. Typically the NG supply lines don't go down. It can happen, but seems to be very rare in my area. My plan is to store my propane, and use it as a last resort. Cooking, heating, whatever. NG...

    What are you preparing for?

Haven't been on in a while. I don't "prep," I live a lifestyle that suits me and my family. Simple, lots of hard work, but the pleasure of knowing that we did it ourselves. I don't like being caught with my pants down, never have, never will. To look in the pantry, the best looking stuff is the...

What did you do to save $ today?

Been a while since I have been on here. Been busy with moving, canning, and working. We went and picked 90 pounds of apples for a whopping total of $6.00. Got 30 quarts, plus or minus of super sweet apple juice. Already have the applesauce put up. May try to go get some more, if the cold hasent...

    Is it really that hard?

Haven't been on in a while. Lots happening in life, for the good, I hope. I have fed 3 people very well, including buying meat, wich is expensive, on 100.00 a month. Not the most fun, but it can be done, with out ramen noodles 2 out of 3 meals. Pork can be a reasonable alternative to chicken, or...

I would rather have my own home raised, but I found whole fryers for .77/lb. Wish I could get some more. Have one cooking down for some chicken noodle soup, with homemade noodles. I always have to check the rancid meat pile whenever I go to the store.
