    Soap Making 101

Well keep it in the mold until at least tomorrow. Usually after one day I can unmold it and cut it if necessary. But it is still kind of soft. You need to cure it two to three weeks. The longer you cure it, the harder it becomes. That recipe is on the soft side so it becomes better if you cure...

Can this yogurt be saved (check page 2)

It wasn't past the "sell by" date, but I had it over a week and a half. It was rather watery. Could the milk have been too hot, would that kill off the yogurt? My thermometer isn't real easy to read, it could have been a little hot? Do you think I "killed" the starter? Is there anything that...

    Soap Making 101

Well it stays kind of pudding like for a day or so, and gradually hardens. It doesn't necessarily turn solid on the day you pour it. Don't despair yet, it takes awhile to set up and cure.

Can this yogurt be saved (check page 2)

I'm on my fourth batch of yogurt, and this one was my first flop. It just came out like thickened milk, not a good consistency at all. Ideas why this would be? I used a yogurt maker and followed the same general recipe as before. I didn't bring it to a full boil this time was the only...

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

I did all those things. She knows. I actually smacked her WITH the chicken too. And I don't usually hit dogs, she knows she committed a Grave Error, I reserve corporal punishment for only the very baaaaad and Bandit has only been smacked by me once before in her life (with us). I have been...

    Soap Making 101

It doesn't fully set up for about a day or two, maybe it isn't as bad as you think. Are you weighing your water?

I don't think you stirred enough on that other batch.

I'm glad you found your keys. About a year ago, we lost our set of keys for a vehicle for about a MONTH. That was pretty embarrassing.

    Soap Making 101

When I've used that recipe I've added things at trace (oatmeal, honey, scent). Once it starts to thicken and reach trace you need to finish mixing it well and then immediately do what you are going to do in the way of adding stuff and pouring into your mold, you have about five minutes working...

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

She knows she is in the "dog house". I just feel so stupid. I should have known she would take advantage of the dark. She has been "good" out there with the chickens when I am standing there watching. But she knew I could not see her. I did not think about one of the chickens being outside when...

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

So I get the dumbell award this morning. The back porch light went out last night, but this morning I let the dogs out the back door in the wee hours of the morning, including Bandit-the-chicken-killer, because I wrongly thought the chickens would all still be in bed. I'm peering out the window...

    Ideas for Money Making Projects

That kind of craft sounds too good to be true. I've participated in craft fairs and talked to people in other booths, there isn't too much that is easy to make, huge profit margin and sells fast, as well as not needing investment capital. The cost of the booth itself and the materials often...

    Soap Making 101

You can simply replace 8 oz of the water in the Crisco recipe with 8 oz of goat milk. Voila, goat milk soap. I've made that recipe about three times, each time it came out great.

    Soap Making 101

It is easier to add water. Goat milk discolors if you add it when it is too warm and can make your trace more difficult, the issue that you had with the batch you broke the mixer on. I doubt you jumped into your clinicals without any background knowledge, it is the same with soap. Learning how...

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

I HATE what a poor job they do of closed captioning much of the time. It is appalling. I was thinking of writing a little journal of the silly misspellings, like when they use the word please instead of police on the news, or similar errors on the news especially. My hearing loss is probably...
