    In your opinion.........

I think the media is jumping on and hyping this current style of protest, partly because a lot of us are watching for this kind of thing. It isn't a secret that many people are worried at this point. They are PLAYING with our concerns and using it to sell air time, and it irks me to pieces. I...

    Soap Making 101

I use this recipe too. I do change out the water for goat milk now and add 1/4 cup honey, 1/2 cup oatmeal and the fragrance at trace. It was a nice soap without the goat milk however, and I made a batch without goat milk first, just to learn how. I haven't had too much trouble having it come up...

    Abifae - Ciao Babies!

I mean relatives.....if you are using the word "family" to mean those you choose to love and spend time with, I agree.... We choose to spend time with only one group of relatives.....some of the others are not "family" in the sense that you mean.

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

I may try them as my next meat project. I don't want just rabbit to eat. We were supposed to have one "totally dry day" today and of course it is pouring pitchforks. At least Cody has figured his hut out and now is staying high and dry in there. We didn't have enough money for BOSS for...

Gosh, and I paid three dollars for it! But either way, it is an excellent book.

    Abifae - Ciao Babies!

Regarding the family cat issue, having out-of-litterbox experiences is probably the number ONE reason that adult cats are looking for homes. Being around too many cats is very often the cause and isolating them is the solution. My solution to this issue is to turn them into barn cats. Not...

    Reading Ten Acres Enough

I'm currently about 75 percent through reading Ten Acres Enough by Edmund Morris What an interesting book! I had heard it mentioned here on this forum and bought a 3.00 Kindle version yesterday, and can't put it down! I was wondering how many of you read this book and were influenced by it. I...

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

They range far and wide, really? That would work well for us. I may have to think about getting some. They are mainly for eating as meat birds, correct?

Farmfresh City Homesteader - the sound of falling oaks.

We don't have a garage, it is a serious sore point. We have a few sheds but they just are not the same. Hubby has a carport planned.

What did you do to save $ today?

I've gotten that Safeway for delivery when I lived in town, sometimes they offer the service FREE! You don't do any impulse buying when you select online. I was able to save quite a bit when I got those free delivery offers. I was amazed how many more things I bought simply because I could see...

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

And that smell......:sick I'm not fond of the smell of any type of poo, but duck poo is especially bad. People say guineas have the stinkiest poo, so I have been so far reluctant to give them a try. The garden looked a little lonely this morning without the ducks in there, but I really don't...

    Help with Struggling Reader(s)

I think it was about third grade that my kids all enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia and The Five Children (Nesbit). I also highly recommend Marguerite Henry's story's such as Misty of Chincoteague, Brighty of the Grand Canyon. Oh and another good book, Caddie Woodlawn. Sometimes if you just get...

    In your opinion.........

I tend to agree with this assessment. However, I think there might be good and bad pockets. Look at Detroit already....that is already "broken down". I think some communities will fare better. I hope the ones near me will be some of them.

Farmfresh City Homesteader - the sound of falling oaks.

I used to live in a city in Los Angeles county that had a twice yearly dump day, where you could put just about anything out on the curb, old couches, paint cans, etc. They had special trucks that came around for pick up. But the funny part was how all the neighboring towns knew about our dump...

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

I think I might raise some meat ducks again someday, but unless I had a natural pond, I would not want to keep ducks year round again. Perhaps because our climate is wet and muddy, they made the poultry yard even smellier and more muddy....or perhaps it is just the mud is more disgusting with...

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

So we sold the final remaining two ducks today. I only made 25.00 off of them, but they were not productive, so they were pretty much a financial loss. They are going to a home that has just ducks, no chickens. I had already taken over the duck area and converted it into the Buck Palace, so the...

    Soap Making 101

Just let it keep drying. I've had some still pretty soft after two days and after curing really well it came out fine. I'd leave it in the mold, or put the mold in the freezer before trying to unmold it.
