There’s a first time for everything.

These are a few pics after the Vick’s was added. Baby kept answering moms calls but seemed to be looking for Onyx to protect her from us. Now Onyx was just watching us and did not shoo baby or head but at all.

So this is my first attempt at grafting these two. This is how they were behaving immediately before I tried Vick’s which is all I had on hand. What do you all think about their interactions? Also this is the only available enclosed area I have at the moment and momma can be heard on the other...

    Farm journal?

I’m not too concerned at the moment about the expense part ( maybe I should be). But as our animals have begun reproducing it’s getting harder to recal who was born when and what they weighed. Right now it’s obvious who the parents were but as I decide who to keep and who to replace that might...

    Farm journal?

Hello, So I’ve been thinking about getting serious about my homestead in terms of tracking and planning. So far I keep all information about births, laying records, fertility, planting, issues, interventions, sales and purchases etc. on my smartphone calendar. However my husband has become...

There’s a first time for everything.

I think I’ll try the grafting just to have some experience should I really need to do it in the future. It if takes good and it it doesn’t I’ll just give baby back to momma and continue milking. Thank you all for the advice. I’ll let you all know how it goes. How long should I try the grafting...

There’s a first time for everything.

We have a customer that we have developed I guess a friendship with. She raises bottle babies and takes them to her school for special needs children to use as therapy animals. She fell in love with him when she came over to bring us turkeys to smoke and was anxious to get him as soon as...

There’s a first time for everything.

Hello, Just wanted to share my experience with my ewe today. This is Onyx we bought her back in August. According to seller she is 75% Kathadin what the other 25% is we already forgot. We got her for $50 because we were purchasing the remainder of his flock wich was 100% Kathadin and he didn’t...

I have my learning cap on.

She was not aggressive she was greedy and lacked any redeeming qualities in my eyes. She also destroyed a fence in order to get to my neighbors bull. He was not happy. She also destroyed another fence just to eat my mango tree. That was the last straw for me. The only think that was even close...

Mom was just not working for us she would not allow anyone else to eat no matter how much food we offered she would finish her portion and bully everyone else out of theirs even her calf. We had to stay there until everyone had their share so we decided against cows.

Oh and originally we had bought a mini angus cow and female calf pair but they were such boneheads we decided to butcher and not work with cows again. There’s also a bishon frise male hiding behind my Cane Corso I rehomed him with my aunt last month because he always got hurt when he played...

We did have an intact boat but we traded him and our momma with babies to a young man who fixed our pasture fence. Our boar was supper sweet too he thought he was a dog, loved belly rubs and came when called by name. We did not keep him because although he was a lean hog his babies were mostly...

Yeah we’ve had two sets of twins so far and a singleton they are supper sweet. We found a forever home for our first twins which were orphaned (we lost mom at delivery). They are therapy animals at a school for special needs children. I couldn’t be happier with their new home and the family that...

Yeah my male is almost two 120 lbs and he swears he’s a lap dog sometimes. Also you can’t dance around him without him jumping on you and joining in. He’s very vocal with strangers but totally sweet. Whenever I have a family or friends over he picks out a new friend and is very protective of...

Hello, I moved from Tacoma, Washington state to Union County Florida in early winter 2016. I grew up in the mountains of Puerto Rico so I have some idea of what making the most out of everything was like back there. I spent 12 years in the Army as a nurse where I obtained some useful skills. I...
