Today I planted 11 tubers in a really poor-quality area of my yard, hoping since everyone says they will take over that they will manage to survive. I've only tasted one once, raw, so I have no idea what I'll do with them if I get overrun. I'm also a little scared about the environmental impact...
Can someone post how-to details about the starter fluid? Do they just willingly drink it? Is there another good way or type of poison? My son's hen Juliet needs to go and I don't have the guts to wring her neck or chop off her head. I don't have a cone.
I keep bulk packages of yeast in the freezer, then put it into smaller containers when I open one, and keep one container at a time in the refrigerator. So it lasts a very long time- I usually buy a year's worth at a time. So I would say it could last several years if you could keep it cold...
I feel like a proud grandma!
My OE bantam hatched chicks last night! I knew they were due, and pleaded with my mom to make sure she was sheltered because I knew it was getting cold there in UT. The hen had just picked a weedy area of the garden for her nest- not very safe or warm when it starts...
I bet the sugar is easier to use this way, in smaller portions, but it sounds like a lot of work. Nothing eats dry sugar except us humans, so I just plop unopened bags of it into a big plastic tote bin to keep off the dust and make sure it doesn't get wet. No bugs or weevils or mice will eat it...
I have been a sahm (stay at home mom) for the past 11 years. I am in my mid-30's. My family is blessed that my dh has a good job and we can live off one income. Someone gave me a comment the other day that I should start thinking about getting a job so I could earn my social security credits. I...
Helped my mom out with saving money today. She has the land and the animals, but I have access to all the stores. She raises Nigerian Dwarf goats and shows them, so they have to be shaved for the shows and don't have their winter coats come in a soon as unshorn goats. She's been wanting to get...
Hey, quiet and growing is a good way to be. Good luck with the moves- exciting times ahead.
Lady Hen- I cannot imagine learning to drive here in LA. I am proud that I can handle it now as a 30-something. And you must have nerves of steel!
Just finished the last batch of pears today. My kids are old enough this year to really help. I couldn't have done all the peeling and coring without them. I bought 2 boxes, so 72 lbs. and got 35 quarts, plus plenty for eating fresh.
I picked my first pomegranite in September! It was so yummy. I have a half dozen more out there. Also, am nearly ready to pick my first persimmon. Can't wait.
