Oh, I used to buy that, from Henrys. Sadly I did not notice a difference in out kefir so after a couple of months I went back to regula organic milk :hide
Sad huh?
Heheheee.....yeah! Can y'all just Fed ex me some milk?
Sheesh. :lau
I need real life friends with goats. But I am the only weird one that I know who would even entertain the idea.
I like the idea of trying out cheese making with store bought cheaper milk so as to not waste the good stuff :thumbsup
Sadly, I really do not see dairy animals in my future. I need to find some friends who have goats!
Ok, well let me rephrase that...I guess I asked the wrong question.
Is it ludicrous to buy milk to make your own cheese?
I guess the bottom line is really playing with food more than money saving. I love cheese and think it would be great to learn how to make some. But sometime things just...
Hey Tanks.....hope things are better with your turkeys today.
I came across this ad from Valley Center.... http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/grd/2409991644.html
Where are you buying your milk from?
The lady from El Cajon has not responded yet, but her ad was placed 5/30 so i am hoping that...
Sorry, Gina...I just double checked and the ad said $3 qt or $5 for 2 qts.
They are in El Cajon......might be a bit of a drive for you, but if she ever responds, I will let you know if she is still selling.
In culinary school we did make a cheese with pasteurized milk.....but I would prefer to work with raw.
A 1/2 gal of raw cows milk is $10 here thru the health food stores. I did find a potential local source for $3 a gal for goats milk :woot. Which would be awesome if it works out.
Is it realistic to attempt cheese making when I do not have goats, sheep or cows?
I am trying to source some milk now, but I wonder if it is cost effective to even attempt cheese making.
Thoughts?
How long have you been consuming kefir?
I know that for some people they need to start slowly and build up. It does cause a sort of 'cleanse'.
We consume 8oz in our shakes. My bro in law started with 8 oz and had a similar reaction as you.....he backed down to a few oz let his body adjust...
Like Tanks, I dislike canned veggies too. I have canned pickles, which were nasty and soft as well as green beans....again too soft, so I don't can any more.
I have done beans, which are a huge time saver and I love them....need to do more. I also really want to try meats, canned chicken taco...
The chicken marinade idea sounds awesome....so does the granita.
No one here really likes them enough to just eat one straight up and I hate to waste them!
Thanks Pat.
Happy Sunday OFG :frow
I am glad to hear that you guys are drying out enough to get your hands dirty.....starting a garden is one of my favorite things, so much hope and promise :thumbsup
Good luck at the MILs, that desert sounds absolutely hideous :sick
I am sure you will bring home a good...
