    Bear Meat

I have never actually eaten bear, but a co-worker's hubby usually gets at least one a year. She says it depends heavily on what food the bear has been eating how the meat will taste. Fishing bear tastes different from berries bear.

Colowyo - grudgingly settling in :P

Well, woo hoo! Chucking things before a move is a great thing. Even if I do still miss some things that got chucked in our last move. :idunno Congratulations! House hunting is sort of fun.

Emergency Preparedness on the priority list now!

Everyone is busy hunkering down and picking anything up that could get blown around with a hurricaine- at least on the east coast- I suppose. If you don't pick it now it might blow away, and there goes your garden!

    SKR8PN.... two small butts........

Wow! I don't know what is more impressive- the chicken tractor or the new deck and patio! I want both

Yogurt making without a yogurt maker

I heat to 160, cool in an ice water bath down to 110 and add in about half a cup of yogurt for starter. Incubate in a pre-heated cooler with a mason jar of hot water for it's hot pack (instead of cold pack). Leave it until it solidifies. And yes, sometimes it just doesn't want to work. I call it...

    Soap Making 101

LOL, SD  I buy my lye at AAA chemicals- it is the best deal around I have found. http://www.aaa-chemicals.com/sodium-hydroxide.html iyecats: you might want to look into glycerine melt and pour soaps, or the grate and melt regular soap, but try a bit of both at home first to see just how...

    Canning & Mineral Deposits

I notice it mostly on my lids when they come out of the water bath. I wipe them off after they dry. No biggie- it's just calcium

    Prescription bottles

I love it when new people come and resurrect old threads that I missed! Love some of these ideas, especially the seed saving!

    Any vinegar makers here?

I think I might grind up the apples in the food processor first- skins, seeds and all. (I think the bacteria to make ACV actually comes from the skins. But I'm not sure!). That way you don't have to worry about the pieces of apple floating to the top and it gives more juice and surface area of...

    Pollster: Americans Are Pre-Revolutionary

I would get behind a national sales tax in a heartbeat! Exclude food and medicine. I am told it is a regressive tax- that the poor would pay more of their income in taxes this way than the rich would. But, it is the only way to collect any money on the boats and airplanes and various luxuries...

MyKidLuvsGreenEgz .. .. COLORADO IS BURNING

Not dumb! Never! Just enthusiastic :D It's like taking the lid off a shaken soda- all these ideas have become possible now. It's not a bad thing to think about everything possible! It helps you prioritize and decide what you would love to do, given best case scenario. Then you have us to remind...

    Pollster: Americans Are Pre-Revolutionary

SS: :thumbsup I see no reason whatsoever that the richest corporations and individuals can play the tax code to the extent that many pay less in actual dollars than I do in taxes. That just seems grossly unfair to me. It's not about the tax rate- it's about the manipulation of the tax code to...

    Stock up alert!

My boss has organic, unsprayed ugly peaches every year that are the sweetest things I ever tasted. I get almost the whole tree full for jam if I want them. I don't think I have time this year. I haven't even gotten blueberry jam done, and they're almost over.

Val's SS journal- Fair food! Yea!

Thanks. I am finding that even 2 weeks later, losing Paree has changed my attitude towards our house here. I am ready to move. I don't like the feeling that if anything happens we are living next door to the zombies. I wouldn't mind moving closer to my in-laws and having an apt for them in our...

the zombies that may be in your yard

Oh, that is hysterical!! I want one! (but I can't really justify buying it- we really need to get this house in saleable condition and I don't think Zombie Gnomes would help)

    Hen23's Journal~Goodbye

LOL- people are so weird! I vote for green hair and goo it up so it sticks out in spikes as long as you can make them!

    Stock up alert!

Hm. I wouldn't have thought to ask for seconds. I will have to scout around. Our tomatoes this year were a complete bust- they don't like where SO decided to move them to and the plants just never developed well.
