hugelkultur in florida: it is gonna decompose about five to twenty times faster in florida than in montana. hugelkultur in a pit: Yes, that is how it is more frequently done. However, with the bed being so tall, there are a lot of other perks such as a longer growing season as the growies...

    hugelkultur - gardening without irrigation

This is a short video from a workshop two weeks ago. The general idea is that if you build your raised bed with a lot of wood in it, you should be able to go the whole summer without irrigating or fertilizing. http://www.youtube.com/paulwheaton12#p/u/0/sp_IObIkInQ

Put down lots of diatomaceous earth at the base of your plants. That kills the ants without killing the bugs that like to eat aphids.

washing dishes: by hand vs. dishwasher

I feel like I have accomplished something. Two days ago, my life was riddled with folks insisting that any dishwasher used less water than washing dishes by hand and, to them, it was absolute fact that would never change. And now, while there are folks that have other reasons why they use...

washing dishes: by hand vs. dishwasher

Three times in the last 24 hours I was told that it is absolute fact that dishwashers use less water. And when I try to explain how I think I use less water than a dishwasher .... well, my message doesn't get though. So I made this video in a feeble attempt to express myself...

splitting cedar logs for rails or posts - new video

Greed cedar? I've never heard of that. I was thinking it was common western red cedar. There were three really sickly trees all in a bunch.

splitting cedar logs for rails or posts - new video

And that is the exact fuel that gets me to take the time to keep on doing it! The wacky thing is that I had no idea how folks split rails/posts until I saw this done. And then once I saw it, it was a powerful "well DUH!" moment. Thanks! I've been learning that that sort of thing really helps!
