http://www.soap-making-resource.com/natural-soap-colorants.html Scroll down to the comfrey. It is added as a colorant. I've gotten some cool ideas from this site.
This sounds like fun, wish I could join! I am very sensitive to scents and wouldn't even be able to bring the box into the house. :( Howzabout someone posting a picture of the box of soaps when all is said and done so I can enjoy it vicariously? :P
(I only make unscented soaps, or whatever...
I ordered a five gallon bucket of raw wildflower honey (local) from the co-op along with some whole oats for flaking for oatmeal. The honey will go into the occasional sweet goody and for making mead.
I just picked some clover for my bags of meat....er.....I mean for my hogs. They love...
Great idea, BBrooks! I have one, it came with a larger one I bought years ago. The one setting is hotter than Low but cooler than High. It will be perfect. I won't leave it on all morning, but will experiment in advance as to how long it will take. I can put a foil wrapped home made egg...
For spices, herbs, smaller items: I put the word out and got a bunch of free canning jars. I love the old-fashioned ones with the glass lids. You can get the rubber rings new if you look around....Ace hardware will order them for you if they don't carry them near you. These jars, with good...
That was a fantastic deal! I am feeling pretty spoiled as I watch my free wheat berries getting used up .....I'm used to free grain now and won't like having to pay for it again!
These are all great ideas!
Still need more cold ones. I will not be able to re-heat as the classes will take place in a hotel conference room. I will bring a cooler and the breakfast will be my mid-morning break snack.
Hey, do you think I could heat up an egg sandwich and wrap it in foil...
I freeze onions but not the cookie sheet method...I put them in ziplocs and flatten them out so I can break off a chunk. I also freeze chopped scallions in large quantities. Scallions are my favorite flavor to add to chicken broth along with garlic, of course, and rosemary. Scallions don't...
Nice ideas! I like that cakepan one, BBrooks. Can you give me a better idea of proportions? Cooking time? No leavening agent? It sounds like a version of featherbed eggs, made with oatmeal instead of stale bread bits.
I do need some ideas for stuff that can be taken with and eaten cold...
I know that feeling, believe me! I won't list all my mistakes here, but I will tell you that I lost one of my first goats to....not sure. Went out to feed in the morning and Rose (retired Saanen, very sweet and gentle) was dead. I think she may have eaten some fast growing wild laurel that...
Not so sure that will ever happen (publicly, at least ;) ) but there are clues within the text.....like protecting the "prize milker" from puppy teeth..... Busted! :D
Ha-ha, OFG, you always get an A with me! Hey, I'm cutting the cheese today! Twice! Caerphilly and feta.
Thanks for the ideas, oldfashioned. I wonder if pancake batter can be "soaked" if not sourdough. Or will the pancakes be flat. How long can pancake batter sit before being cooked...
