Natural gas is great until there is a problem with the line. A couple of years ago Albuquerque, or one of the surrounding burbs, lost their natural gas and there were massive problems for people up there. No heat, cooking fuel, water pipes freezing and bursting. Such a mess. I prefer propane...
They will absorb the air in the jar but I don't want to use them up by having them seal the jar. I want them to be as "fresh" as possible when I put them in with the food. They can only absorb so much before they are 'full'/used up.
I've been wondering about the whole boiling thing. We eat commercially canned food without heating. They are just as likely to be infected but I've never seen a warning on them.
My horse would have done the same thing. She hates other animals in "her" space. So far she has "bobbed" for a couple dozen crows, a cat, a turkey :somad ,and tried to do a dog. Oh and a few squirrels.
I read that a year or so ago. Lots of....interesting info in there. My oldest read it and asked why the pets were gone. It took her a few minutes to catch on and then quite a bit longer to quit gagging.
I started that when I was in 4-H so I would not forget that we were going to eat them. My kids know if they are called by tatoo numbers or named after food they ARE food and play with the non-food names.
Thats a nice thought but my neighbors have already proved its not so. We used to have neighbors that helped out during emergencies, then hubby's job moved us. Those neighbors kept my horses from being stolen while I was moving a load of furniture from S. Tx to NM. The ones here want my...
Start by not naming or playing with them. That makes it harder. We have 2 pets because hubby let the kids name them. I named the pig 'bacon' just to remind everyone so we wouldn't end up with a pet pig too.
We have one farm store here but they only sell what they grow so it is very limited, some tomatoes, hot peppers and hay. They grow soybeans and cotton too but ship that off somewhere.. I haven't seen flyers or adds for produce anywhere. I guess everyone is keeping and canning it for themselves.
Our farmers market closed.:( The store that "sponsored" it closed and the property is off limits now. 65 miles to the next one. Don't know what everyone is doing with their produce.
I've found that we like the ground meat "dry canned". (cook meat and drain grease) it has a better texture. I am also not breaking it up into small chunks like I would if I was going to ser e it right away. When we canned in broth the meat chopped smaller it seamed kinda mealey.
