I too am a 'Gloom & Doomer' I guess. For the last several decades, as the world enjoyed it's opulance I became aware of the direction it would eventually come too. As in 'what goes up, must come down' and what history has proven. Before the Great Depression was the 'roaring 20's' & life was a...

Just an FYI....So far there is no known cause, but could be suspicious activity from elsewhere...ya just never know :D
I do that too & have noooo problem with it as they are still bacon just in smaller pieces than strips & much cheaper too. I'll do whatever it takes to fill our baconholic need
Koxxx, that is what I was paying here about a year or so ago. I can't believe the jump. I did find a store that would occaisionally sell it in bulk (10lb box for $20=$2 per lb) and I took a chance. The first time I bought one, it was great with a harwood smoke & I was sorry I hadn't bought more...
I don't remember if this has been mentioned before or not, but there is a small chain of stores called 'Grocery Outlet' that you can find some great deals. Although in the last few years I've noticed their prices can sometimes be even more than big chains sales so you need to be aware. It is my...
Moolie, I agree to a point. I may very well be wrong here, but I think you are talking on a much smaller scale than I was. Any of the small companies mentioned in the earlier post (Tom's, Burt's Bee's, Cascadian, etc) had already made it past those initial business 'bumps in the road' and were...
I was just wondering about the price of bacon in the store. Around here it's running about $5 (for 10-12oz pkg) to $7 (for 1 lb pkg), how much for anyone else?
Actually yes it does matter who profits. Consumer dollars are the biggest determining factor of business. Just for instance, you continue to buy your seeds from Burpee you are in turn supporting Seminis aka Monsanto & with those profits Monsanto is even more able to monopolize the worlds seeds...
Bee, firewood can be very expensive but there are ways to cut your costs, if you are able. As already mentioned, find a sawmill that is getting rid of odd pieces like slab or mill ends or whatever. The mill can't use these for their main business & is considered waste, you can get it for a...
This thread has been dead for awhile now, but a new thread about rice got me to thinking...
I love Chinese food & stir fry since most of what I like is centered around tender crisp veggies and of course rice & noodles. Ma worked in a Chinese resteraunt when I was very young, so I grew up on it...
Yesterday I did 14 pints of corn, 5qts of peaches with sugar syrup and 1qt + 4 pints in plain water. (A lady that I work with is a diabetic & had given me some canning jars since she wasn't going to use them anymore & I had promised her some sugar free peaches in exchange)
Today I'll be doing a...
I agree about the amount of homework. That is alot. My boys in elementary school usually have the week to complete about 3 or 4 pages of spelling work to be turned in on Fridays (Thursdays on short weeks), one page of math each day and are supposed to read atleast 30 minutes a day. Plus any work...
I've been busy with season end chores around here & figured it's time to resurrect this thread...
Corn: had to replant a couple of times because of weather being so cool for so long. Ended up with 2 inverted beds of hybrid types that as the ears matured & ready to pick, SOMETHING ate right...
I ended up canning it all, getting 14 pints & the chickens got the cobs to clean up for a treat. I had corn kernals, silk & milk juice EVERYWHERE! What a mess...but that's another thread :D
I hope to get back over to that fruit stand to get some more corn before the season is over so I can get...
I don't know about being their main staple or even raw. I wouldn't think it would give enough nutrients, but :hu I have given leftover cooked rice to my chickens & they love it but only as an occaisional treat.
Thanks JR, just what I was looking for. And I somehow doubt it would last that long in the freezer since it was soooo good. I'll be lucky if it lasts until Christmas before it's eaten
