I soak them overnight and then I sit them in the pot on the oven and heat them until the water is HOT!!! Then I put them into hot jars, add liquid, then can'em. That simple :)
Your welcome freemotion!!!
Schooling 2 kids and 1 graduating
Been very busy around here. I have the graduation to get ready for by next Sunday. I have a menu to get together for this, that goodness I already have the BBQ canned. I have canned some strawberry jam that turned out to be...
Our is a homeschoolers also, the other kid is too.
I got the invitations at Office Depot, used the template that the company provides on their website, and went to printing. We then took a small picture and added one to each invitation (this picture was taken with a small digital camera and...
I have this same delima going on here. Our Graduation is going to be on the 7th. So for us it will be Sunday dinner. 4 families will be in our back yard, all from NC, GA, NY, FL, who knows where else, Oh, from VA to :)
I am thinking of BBQ (which I canned up a week or so ago), Fried Chicken...
I agree with Tallman.....leave it original. It has withstood the weather up until now, so I think the originality of it makes it even the more conversational.
Like you said.....Stick with the tried and true ways of canning and you should be fine. And remember this.....the fat in the jars also give it flavoring. So you have to have some fat left in the jars.
Happy Canning :)
2dream...I honestly have never heard of turning the jars upside down in the pressure canner, but I won't say that it doesn't sound like an idea.
I would actually be to afraid of doing that, with the long processing time, the seal may actually get to hot and literally melt. Then you wouldn't...
I usually just add fat meat or bacon to the all the beans that I can for flavoring. When you add the fat meat or bacon.....don't add any extra salt. It will be to over-whelming. For pints I add 1 slice of bacon or fat meat and for quarts I add 2 to 3 slices.
You can buy just about any bean on...
O.K. here goes..... for sufficient canning I use 1 cup each variety.
Pinto
Great Northern
Black Beans
Lite Red Kidney
Large Limas
Small Limas
Blackeyes
Garbonzas
Navy
Green Split (peas)
Yellow Split (peas)
Lentils
You can also add any other bean that you like to this list. ;)
When I can them...
I only by the dry beans and can them. From Pintos (fat meat added), Navy, lentil, Northern to Kidney, Black, & the 15 bean soup (gotta add ham with this) YUMMY!!!!
I actually have one of those little plastic 3-drawer thingamagigs in my kitchen just for all my dry beans. You can buy them dry a...
I woke up at 4:30 a.m. yesterday morning to get prepared for a long, hot day.
In the end it was well worth it. I wound up with 7 quarts of Beef Pot Pie filling, 7 quarts and 5 pints of Veg. Beep Soup, 5 quarts of the best BBQ Pork, MMM!!!!
Hope you have all the canning supplies that you'll...
Beekissed post#1243....You said it the way it is. I can't stand the fact that the gov't is in such control over certain areas of the food industry.
You can take a backwoods family that lives off the land and a family that lives in the city that buys all their food from a grocer and take both of...
Went to a warehouse sale where they print schoolbooks and purchased 36 (large) brand new school books for $25 that would have costed over $400.
Most of these books are priced in the $9.99 to $14.99 range and I got them (the large books) for .50 cents each. The above total ($25) doesn't include...
No.....Beekissed----this is a company that prints the books. These books are brand new, never been used. They also have all types of manipulatives that you can purchase but that is on the first day of the sale. We went on the 3rd day, which is the last day, of the sale.
Again these books are...
