What to do with a Hog Head.

:frow Reinbeau :frow Yes, lots of times. We still have Bacon Shops here in the UK where they sell only products from cured pig meat. We have one in the town near me & I often buy Bath Chaps (Pig's Cheeks covered in breadcrumbs) already prepared. I used to cook the whole head as described...

What to do with a Hog Head.

:frow "Good things you can make from a hog's head" :frow Over here we tend to call it Brawn rather than Head Cheese now & it is absolutely delicious. We also make Bath Chaps from the pig's cheeks. Here are some links from the UK (so be aware of the measurements being different)...

If you are in a place with daylight savings time...

:frow :frow We changed our clocks back last Saturday here in the UK & I am only just getting used to the early dark evenings. I get up a bit earlier so I can let the chickens out to enjoy the mild sunny weather we have been having here. That will all change in a couple of days when the...

Another "OFF THE WALL IDEA" !!!!!! for growing plants

Hi Sylvie :frow It is because of the damp problem that I am putting mine in my workshop because there I can hang it in the middle of the room away from the walls. It has exposed metal roofing supports but the plants will get plenty of light from a line of windows. Hattie

Another "OFF THE WALL IDEA" !!!!!! for growing plants

Hi there! I am always finding "interesting" new ways of growing plants. This grew out of my interest in "vertical gardening" that I posted about a few weeks ago on TEG. This one uses one of those shoe-stores that hang on the back of a door. I have a lovely new green one which I bought to put...

Building a greenhouse out of recycled clear plasic bottles!

Hi there! I came across this information this morning as I was poking around on my laptop when I couldn't sleep. I have been saving my clear plastic bottles for a while because I had an idea to build a cold frame out of them. This greenhouse is a lot more ambitious...

    What are you fermenting today?

Hi freemotion :frow Thank you so much for your explanation! It really helped me understand more clearly what you are all talking about -- I have been reading the thread for the last couple of weeks. I too look forward to Part 2. later on today (it's morning here in the UK). Hattie :frow

The great broody experiment (new pics p 18)

Hi there! I agree with Beekissed's advice about moving the broodie at night & with a cover. Now as to having 3 mothers-to-be together in one brooding space:- In my experience this is not a good idea as the broodies steal each other's eggs or try to all sit on the collected pile. The heat...

    What are you fermenting today?

Hi there! :frow I just wanted to say that you can store fresh ginger in sherry too. Personally I prefer this as I then use the liquid in Chinese & Japanese dishes where it substitutes for their wines. It is also much cheaper here in the UK. I'm new here ( I have been over here, lurking for...
