Two thoughts...
1. Consider the source.
2. Something fishy about $4,600 in sales of a home grown product with only $200 profit. Something tells me we aren't getting the full story, here.
Been that way for a while. I have a petition signed by my gr gr grandfather in 1857 protesting a railroad that was going to cut his land directly in half. Seeings there are now railroad tracks there his petition must not have done much good.
You probably have the black and white version. The new color Kindle and Nook are more like tablet PCs and use a lot more battery juice. I bought my oldest daughter and her husband a black and white Nook for their birthdays just that reason.
I have Kindle, Nook, and Google Books apps on my Android phone, so I have the best of all the e-readers. So far I like Google Books app most as I can blow up the print larger.
I would argue it is in fact a sort of self sufficiency. Nothing like carrying a library in your pocket.
I think that would be an excellent argument in favor, actually.
Someone once asked Sean Connery what he thought about working with him in Presidio. He said it wouldn't have been bad except something about acting and paper bags.
When you watch or listen to the news, you pretty much get the lineup of stories they want you to get in the order they want you to get it. With print, you can scan the stories and decide which ones are important. I don't care about Charlie Sheen or Lindsay Lohan or any other of the latest...
Loved this paragraph...
"Organized crime. Police aren't the only ones on patrol since the earthquake hit. Members of the Yakuza, Japan's organized crime syndicate, have also been enforcing order. All three major crime groupsthe Yamaguchi-gumi, the Sumiyoshi-kai, and the Inagawa-kaihave...
I have a black lab, and she killed a few at first, but we decided she was more valuable to us than the few chickens we lost, so we stuck with her. It has paid off in spades. We now have 5 Great Pyrs and her personality balances perfectly with their mellow approach. They are all smart, but she is...
Actually, most of it isn't flat. Just chatted with my friend in Sendai for about half an hour, and he said most of his city is fine. If people wanted to loot, they would certainly be able to do so.
I'm sure there is some looting going on, though. Even Japan has criminals. We just aren't seeing it.
FRESH, the movie is now available on YouTube.
I don't know how it got there, or if it has the producer's blessings, but this excellent documentary on where our food comes from and the alternatives in sustainable agriculture is now on YouTube in an 8 part series. Someone on BYC was kind enough...
One of my best buds lives in Sendai. He owns a couple of English schools there. He was playing online games when the quake hit and his friends stateside could hear the quake through their speakers.
He and his family and in-laws are okay. He was stocked with supplies, including water and food...
Pretty funny, mtn. My wife got a kick out of it too. We have been fans for years but are just now taking FPU for the first time.
PS: See my signature line. :D
PPS: And since you have a husband, shouldn't it be Mrs_thenorth?
Well enough to carry those three babies around in her. She can run, actually.
Now that the big billy is gone, she is now the lead goat. She keeps everyone in line.
