    trying to quit smoking again

:thumbsup for taking the plunge to quit. My mil had great success with Chantix. In the study, are you getting the phone support program along with the drug or just the drug? That made a big difference for her. Cheering for you to beat it! :woot

    Egg shell for chickens

Do they eat them like that? I think some people think that if they eat the shells in relative normal egg-looking form, that they'll want to eat the eggs they're not supposed to eat. I personally don't know.

    Egg shell for chickens

In the interest of ss, i would really rather not buy oyster shell. I would rather not even get in the habit of it, honestly. How coarse is oyster shell?

    Egg shell for chickens

I posted this same post over on BYC, but it's very SS for me, so i wanted to post it here too. I've read about feeding egg shell back to the layers instead of oyster shell. But i've never seen anyone mention using the blender. Then it finally dawned on me yesterday. Use the blender! This is...

    Medicinal Garden

That makes a lot of sense, Farmfresh, thank you. FarmerDenise, how may i download your knowledge please? I want to make oils and ointments and whatnot. Where did you learn all this?

    Medicinal Garden

Farmfresh, i didn't realize you could make enough from just one plant for a whole year. That's great! We're thinking about doing an indoor herb garden for things we regularly use in cooking. I can't wait! sylvie, would you share which herbs you chose?

    Medicinal Garden

Oh yes! I am. I'm on an all out mission to identify what is already growing here and figure out what's what....and then how to use them. I think that's my first of many goals. But i am sure that i could easily propagate more and have a regular little natural drugstore outside. ;)

What do you do with milk crates?

I wonder how others are able to easily GET milk crates and wish i could have some too. :(

    Medicinal Garden

I've been seriously throwing around the idea of dedicating a good chunk of my land to a garden specifically for the production of herbs/plants that have medicinal value. Then i could dry them and keep them on hand. I'm wondering who else has done something like this. I'm really not at all...

    Coffee Alternative

I just learned that you can make a coffee-ish drink from yaupon leaves. Yaupon is (so far as i read) the only north american plant that does contain CAFFEINE. Check it out. http://www.smokymountainnews.com/issues/9_01/9_25_01/back_then.shtml

    Organic Chicken Raising! Discussions here!

I'm of the same mind you are, i think. i know that SpeckledHen on BYC feeds the baked/crushed egg shells back to the layers for calcium. Lots of people use the eggs for weekly or more snacks for extra protein. My goal is to get them all but completely off of store bought feed by raising and...

What got your attention to inspire you to go SS?

I'm starting a new thread after inspiration from this thread: http://www.sufficientself.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=91835#p91835 We're not SS by any means, but we really got our eyes opened just before and during Hurricane Rita. At the time we lived in a city on the evacuation route north of...

    Cell Phones???

I kind of enjoy our hurricane power outages for that reason. Boiling water to get the dishes done, etc. Makes me feel a little more connected to what's important.
