For some people, self-sufficiency is connected with their spiritual/religious path. Rather than bringing it up in other threads, confining it to threads where it's clearly labelled seems a reasonable compromise between not shoving it in people's faces and not discussing it at all.
I'm also glad. I have to admit that I've held back from mentioning my religion because so many self-sufficiency and survival sites are Christian-based and I haven't wanted to either offend others or make myself a target. (I have no issue with others being Christian - it's just not the religion...
That's the book. One Second After. An EMP takes out all transistor based systems in the US. No commo, no grid, most cars stop working, anything with a chip is down. What then? It's an interesting (and scary) read. I read it on my Kindle - which always kinda tickles my funny bone. It did remind...
Agreed.
Sowing and harvesting are spiritual acts. Hunting, for me, is also a spiritual act, as is culling the herd and slaughtering the livestock in the fall. For me, those are all spiritual acts, and are part of the wheel of the year and the cycle of our lives.
For folks wanting to explore Wicca and other pagan paths, check out The Witches' Voice which has thousands of articles and other resources, including a whole section on the Basics. There's even an article on So... Your Friend is a Witch to help understand what that means.
Not trying to discourage you from exploring Wicca, but have you considered checking out the Unitarian Universalist churches? We used to joke that the UU church members were "pagans with kids" - i.e., folks who felt they wanted to a) keep on the down-low or b) have a church experience for the...
Merry Meet!
Nice to see a Wiccan Circle here. I was very involved in coven and Wiccan church back when I lived in the midwest, before moving to Italy, and then to California. Here, it's hard to find a group that's serious without being stuffy (if that makes any sense) - guess I'm just happy...
Hunting.
Raising and slaughtering my own livestock.
Making my own food.
Making my own clothing.
Learning skills and connecting with my community in ways that we are prepared if TSHTF.
I make homemade pasta sauces most nights and use it as the liquid. I also use it when cooking rice or risotto. Or, pretty much anytime I need extra liquid in something I'm cooking - it adds that extra bit of flavor and nutrition.
Sounds like a good day.
Dontcha just hate when you realize you're missing/out of something important - like gauze (or toilet paper) when you actually need it? Glad you're stocking up.
Today was 7 quarts of chicken stock, 8 pints of chicken stock, and 8 pints of green beans. Finally canned all 20 pounds of green beans I bought Sunday. (Better late than never.)
Yeah - our vet recommended boiled chicken breast for our dog after he ate chocolate and had his stomach pumped. Said it was the easiest on their system. He sure loved it!
When I was pregnant, I couldn't drink coffee without horrible heartburn. Guess what? I stopped drinking coffee.
I'm not a huge addict to anything - I prefer to have a cup or two in the morning of coffee or tea. But I'll survive without it. I do have friends who were addicted to mountain dew or...
