Oh. I sliced the potatoes for fries (3/8"?) Raw packed them in quarts. Added boiling water to 1". Add 1tsp salt per quart jar. Pressure canned them at 11pounds (I"m near sea level, adjust for your altitude) for, um.... however long you do potatoes.
To use:
remove from the jar, drain off the...
I made chili yesterday and cornbread. DH actually liked the cornbread - and he hates cornbread. (I made it with all corn, no wheat flour, and with no sugar. And used lard.) I even bought a new cast iron pan to cook it in.
The chili turned out good, in spite of my fears about the beans. I...
Well, they did actually cook down enough by 7pm to eat. DH didn't even complain that they weren't soft enough. (He really likes "mushy" food.) So I guess I worried for nothing. I think next time, I will cook them separately for an hour before I add them to the chili.
Well, I soaked them overnight in water with some ACV. They probably sat a good 18 hours. Then I put them in the refrigerator in a bag (after draining them) for a day (because I didn't cook chili yesterday). Today, I rinsed them again, and put them in the chili.
They seem to sloooooowly getting...
Okay -
having read folks here mention soaking their beans overnight with a "glug" of ACV, I tried that. Today, I'm making chili with the soaked beans. I put them in about noon, and they've been in the crockpot for about 3-4 hours now. I just tasted it and the taste is great but I'm worried...
Wow. I never thought about the floor joists issue. I should check with my contractor. I was planning on having it in my garage, which should be able to handle the weight. Bu still, better to check. I have smaller water storage, bu want a bigger 55gal barrel for shelter in place.
Nice to see another Motley Fool follower here. DH and I have been following them for several years and actually paid a membership a couple years ago.
We invest to make money for our retirement. However, all else being equal, I prefer to buy stocks in a company that is doing stuff I like than...
So, I can get a large can of Nido (dry whole milk). But I don't want to have a large can of dry milk - because once you open it, you have to use it up within a set amount of time. I'd like to repackage it into smaller containers that I can then store. How can I repackage it without damaging the...
I love sites like Yummly which allow you to put in ingredients you have and get recipe suggestions back. Another one I like is Food on the Table which allows for weekly meal planning but also sends random suggestions to your email so you can get inspired.
My DH is the smoker in the family. He has found that the electronic cigarettes actually help a lot. He's not at all motivated to quit but if he did, he says that would help him - it's the same kind of oral fix and finger fix, so it helps with the physical habit, and you can get them at various...
An article in Financial Times covers how much food is wasted - most of it in households - every year. Worth reading and considering.
I know I have been guilty of tossing food, especially leftovers, in the past. I made it a priority to try to can and freeze things to avoid this. And cut down on...
So I'm wondering if anyone else here does investing (in the stock market). I understand a lot of folks don't. I don't want to turn this into an Occupy Wall Street thread. I'd rather discuss investing in ways that further our values here. Are there any companies that you invest in that support...
