Best place to buy a lot of linseed oil...

I'm constructing several raised beds this weekend and I am using untreated lumber. Someone suggested to me that boiled linseed oil would be the best non-toxic preservative for the wood, but I found that a 1 gallon can is $25 at Lowes. I don't feel like it would go very far. Any other places to...

Getting some free rabbits - what do I do with them?

My daughter has a friend at school whose family is giving us 2 meat rabbits, male and female - I can't remember what breed - because they're downsizing and want to add some new rabbits to their gene pool. I'm not really interested in raising rabbits for meat (don't like the taste, or the...

    Blackberries and blueberries.

I am going to attempted a raised bed start with 4 raspberry plants, another with 4 blackberries, and another with 2 blueberries this year and I live between Cinti & Columbus. One thing I've been told is that blueberries like an acidic soil, so I might have to add some wood ash or something to...

Could use advice on clay soil please!

For root crops like carrots, potatoes, onions, etc., I've heard you want 12" deep. I've never done it, though, so my advice is probably worth what you're paying for it. :-)

Needing some ideas for a waist-high raised bed.

Thanks for the ideas everybody. Keep'em coming. Everything is still on paper. Right now my most affordable option seems to be pallets with the sfg frames on top of them. I'll just have to build legs for them.

Needing some ideas for a waist-high raised bed.

Pallets are a great idea. I could line them with landscaping fabric to prevent soil loss. Will have to see where I can find some around here.

Needing some ideas for a waist-high raised bed.

gd, how would it handle getting saturated wet and constant moisture? Would it still hold weight? To better picture what I'm thinking... look google "gardenrack" and imagine using fabric of some kind for the bottom to contain the soil instead of cement mixing tubs. (I'd post a picture but I'm...

Needing some ideas for a waist-high raised bed.

Pinkfox, hadn't thought about that. I'll keep that idea in the back pocket, but I'm looking for something with a neater appearance. Wife might put the kabosh on that around mid-season. ;-)

Needing some ideas for a waist-high raised bed.

Hello all, new to this site and forum but wanted to jump right in. I am thinking about shoestring budget ways of building some waist-high raised beds. Timber is expensive so rather than build all-wood frames with 2x12 dimensional lumber, I was thinking of building some 2x6 frames with some kind...
