THE SQUIRREL CHALLENGE: Want to join?

Oh my! That sounds delicious! I could eat something with blackberries or just blackberries every day. My favorite would have to be warm blackberry syrup over vanilla ice cream. I just hope there's blackberries in heaven!

How did I waste money today?

Time is the most precious commodity we have. My youngest started junior high this week (7th grade), and I'm feeling it. By the way, hello from Missouri!

    BBQ Rabbit

I was asked on another thread to post this and so here goes: BBQ Rabbit Put your rabbit either cut up or whole (I usually process mine at about 4-6 pounds or around 12 weeks) in a baking dish. Chop up a medium onion and sprinkle on rabbit. Salt and pepper both sides (make sure you season the...

THE SQUIRREL CHALLENGE: Want to join?

Ok, how productive are talking here? Productive as in enough blackberry jam to last a winter or enough to satisfy me which would be several 5 gallon bucket fulls? I love the things and they are easy to grow. I received several starts from my Dad's patch last fall and my patch is looking GOOD!

    kenman: Well, here goes...

Ok, the soup base we make is this: tomatoes are blanched, peeled, cut up, we add chopped green peppers, onion chunks, chopped celery, carrots, and cut up cabbage. We cook this until tender and then cold pack in quart jars with a teaspoon of canning salt. It is perfect to start vegetable/beef...

    kenman: Well, here goes...

It's been a few days since my last post. This is because school has re-started which means I have gone back to work. I teach special education to middle school and high school kids. The paperwork is a PAIN! However, I do love the kids. The main problem is that "work" takes me away from doing...

I don't care what anybody says.................

Onions with my maters? Only if I wanted breath that could not out a bull after I was done eating! Just give me sliced homegrown maters, Miracle Whip, on bread and life is good. A few years ago, when my wife and I hadn't been married long, I had switched jobs, moved us to an older house, and we...

    Missouri anyone???

Where we are at is very flat, some trees, & creeks that I would call drainage ditches. I came from about 40 miles south in the hills of southern Newton County, where there are tons of hardwood forests, clear cold creeks & flintrock. Someday I will move back to my hills. I made my wife promise me...

    Missouri anyone???

Southwest Missouri represented here, specifically Jasper. We have a small place, big back yard, several shade trees, I guess you could call us urban farmers. It has been said that we have more in a backyard than some people have on 60 acres.

Get your Credit Cards PAID off A.S.A.P.- NOW

CC's are all about discipline. We got into trouble a few years ago when I lost my job and we are just now recovering from it. We tried to maintain a lifestyle that a jobless family could not afford. It has cost us more than I can even calculate, not just in interest but in not being able to do...

    Calling all wood heaters

We use an Earthstove to burn wood. Thankfully it was already here when we bought the house. We love it. We have figured our savings in gas run between $200-300 per month during the winter. Our wood is free for the cutting, which is hard word but I enjoy it. It gets you warm twice, getting it cut...

    Washing line stiffness

I don't mean to usurp your thread, but I am looking for a recipe for home aid laundry detergent. Can anyone help? I have been hanging out clothes every chance I get. I love the smell and the feel. My mom used to put out the mattress's and pillows for "airing out." They would smell fantastic for...

Can you live without paper towels?

Ok, I'm new to this forum but I'm gonna put my two cents in. The wife and have decided that living frugally is a must but we are finding that there are a few non-negotiable rules that will have to be observed at all times. So far for me, high quality toilet tissue is a must. For her no hanging...
