Absolutely nothing ! yep, thats right. I didn't can a darned thing today and you know what?? I am glad of it! Don't get me wrong, I had a huge list of stuff I was going to can today, but it didnt happen and I am not going to guilt myself over it ! So there!!;)
ETA: Okay I might feel a little...
Wow! You guys rock so much! I thought I had thought of nearly everything. So, my FIL says we should just skin them and not concern ourselves with plucking.. thoughts on that ?
Okay great! Revised plan. My sweet husband is going to cage off a corner of the chicken yard. Meanness goes in the cage. The next day, we empty the cage. I can give them water , just no feed , right?
Also, I had a thought.. what to do with the leftover.. bits? I hate to waste anything and if...
They are pretty easy to handle. Most all of them are used to me picking them up. Umm.. keep them without food? That seems kind of mean. Is there a reason for it that I am missing?
So.. back in April we got 125 of the world cutest chicks. About 75 were intended to be kept for eggs and breeding. The rest were to meat chickens. Since , we have acquired a whole lot more. We now have a total of about 170 birds. I have been reading up on BYC and think I have a good handle on...
I have one thing to add.. Steam burns suck a lot! When opening your canner, always turn it up so the top faces you. Its pretty amazing how fast you can get burned. btw, it wasn't me. But I think we have all known someone with the less savory side of canning.
Yep.. Rebecka Alexander Just let me know you are SS so I dont ignore the request. I am on it near daily. My city friends require regular 'farm' updates.
That sounds pretty darned good Tankshill! I expect it would can up quite nicely. I would however, add a bit more salt and a pinch of sugar, just to be safe.
I made pickled eggs today. I can hear the happy sounds of lids 'tinking' now :)
If it were me, I would go ahead and start the batch with the grapes you have and then add them as they ripen. This is assuming you feel they will be ripe in the next week or so. Provide yourself a bit of insurance and reserve some of the yeast. Just a bit. Its impressively prolific and hardy. If...
apple cores produce a large amount of pectin. I dont even buy it anymore. If you happen to have an apple tree, there are recipes all over the web that produce a far more stable pectin than what can be purchased.
I made lasagne from only things we have produced here. Our own tomatoes, herbs , cheese, wheat ( ground into flour from what we grew) and eggplant as well as spices. This was the first mean I can say we grew and produced completely. I am terribly excited about it! I also served a salad from our...
21 quarts of Pintos and 16 pints of the same pintos. Wow, those suckers swelled a lot when soaking! Tomorrow its habanero jelly for my sweet husband and the 25lb bag of great northerns that are soaking now. Does anyone can onions other than pickles ? Due to the heat and wet, we had to pull our...
I couldn't possibly agree more. We absolutely love their seeds. The only time we have had poor germination was our own fault. In several orders now, all were perfectly correct and they send me free seeds too :)
Wow! I didnt mean to cause a fuss. I just have limited space and a need for true cow milk. We make cheese and butter and while goats and alpaca rock for what they are, they just cant compare for those things. My sweet husband cant tolerate goats milk. They dont produce enough fat for the cheese...
So, I dont know if you all have heard of these but they are bread ( not genetically engineered ) cattle to be about the size ( height ) of a large dog. Even the milking breeds could produce enough beef for a small family for a year on less than a dollar a day for care! They thrive well on...
How wonderful. I LOVE my Tracker! Its a blast. okay , not a big blast , but a whole lotta cheap fun! With the rain we have had here, I have not had so much trouble for time, but reasonable weather. I picked up a .308 recently that even with it dialed to the far right wont play nice for me. I...
