Very nice Morelcabin. We water our garden out of the pond on our property. We have a pump and generator for that exact reason. I would like to switch it over to solar but that is another project for another day!
Have to say I am a little jealous of your beautiful lake property!! Living in...
I also have been sending reusable containers in my kids, DH, and my own lunches for years!! It is great!
Now if we could only figure out a way to make sure by younger boys lunch boxes get home everyday!! :P
ON BYC I posted this recipe as well. Someone there said that she makes applesauce cakes this way and they last for over a year!! Another person said they make them and then send them overseas to troops stationed in Iraq and Afganistan. I think that would be great!!
I could definately live with out them, but my DH and 3 boys seem to think that using them for absolutly everything is OK. I no longer buy them and my DH knows it. If we run out he has to go get them and it does not come out of grocery money!! I just can't get past how wasteful it is just to...
You are lucky! It is funny how fast you go through them once they start laying!! I am lucky enough to have worked out a system with family and friend to save them and we contsantly reuse them. They bring me empty ones and I seem to fill them up again!! I don't mind!!
We have strawberries, red raspberry, and a few wild black berries. I also have 4 apple trees out at the garden. They are still pretty small. The largest one has about 20 apples on it. Hopefully I will get enough good apples this year to do some applesauce!!
Well, thanks for the information!! I do think they will last for smaller periods of time though and I plan on making them and packing in lunches for my kids and dh. Should not be any different than a cake in a closed container sitting on the counter in the kitchen right?? Here is a pic of the...
My DH found this recipe in an old Camp Cookbook and suprised us by making them all on his own.( I think he was looking for a little time in the kitchen as he usually cooks quite a bit. I have taken over the kitchen lately making jam, jelly, bread, and that kind of stuff.) They turned out...
Thanks Ozark - I will check it out before I make mine. I am still waiting for the tomatoes in my garden to turn red!! I planted about 25 tomatoe plants because I knew I wanted to can some extra things this year -spaghetti sauce, tomatoe sauce, tomatoe juice, etc. I think I may have gone...
That is sooo cool. I know how to knit but not how to crotche. (spelling??) I will look online to see if I can find a knit pattern like this. In the mean time if someone finds one let me know!! I love this bag and think it would be great for many things!!
I found one!! Go to the link above...
There are tons of recipes out there for making pickles. One thing you could do is google canned pickle recipe. Otherwise, you could use the fabulous Ball Blue Book of Canning. It is a wonderful resource for new canners!!
I have been making zucchini bread and freezing that. The recipe I have is very good and very moist even after is has been in the freezer for a month!! I should add that each recipe calls for 4 eggs. That is why I added the idea here. Plus this time of year everyone seems to have plenty of...
My DH makes the best fresh salsa. It includes..
diced tomatoes - usually fresh not canned - onions, green peppers, cilantro, cucumbers, and a dash of lemon juice. It is soo good!!
I was wondering. Does anyone can their fresh salsa. I have always wanted to try canning some of his salsa and...
