We lived happily without one for the past year, however we recently purchased a tiny little cheapo one for warming rice bags and my coffee because it gets cold so dern fast.
I never cook food in it, food just tastes gross coming out of there. soggy soft veggies just don't rock my boat.
Try get those with the rubbery end, they're much easier to use than the needles that are just bent to hold. when you're felting for a while, the rubery end is much easier to keep a good grip on.
I think my problem is I wash my hands toooo often, and sometimes in the kitchen with dish-soap.
I need to make some knitted wool fingerless gloves and sleep with oil on my hands with the gloves on or something, I don't know if that would bother me so much that I wouldn't sleep...
When I was still working, I dropped my insurance because it was just too expensive, that was probably 4 years ago, and just a few months before I was laid off, 6 months ago or so, the company sent out an email to everyone saying they were reducing the paid time off (vacation time) for everyone...
I wish there was a perfect solution for me, I absolutely hate oiling feeling on my hands, and yet my hands crack and bleed from being so dry in winter... they've already done it once this season. Very frustrating, I have tried to use lotions or oils and I can't stand them on my hands for longer...
Look about those little heating pads the old folk use, and people with injuries... they're big enough to put behind your back!

And just when you put on the last layer of clothing, you realize you need to pee like a racehorse! (much more of a challenge for a female)
I got two pairs of fleece lined jeans - they're AWESOME, when the wind blows I put on a big baggy pair of ski pants over them. But we only go down to -20...
I couldn't IMAGINE paying over 6 thousand dollars a year and never going to the doctor for anything................ what a waste of money! :D
I also don't agree with your last statement, doctors generally don't make people "healthier".
The whole opening for these companies to do that was/is the whole campaign against smokers - if folks had stepped up back then they couldn't pick on anyone else either.
No doubt they'll charge you more based on how overweight a person is, etc..
Soon they'll want your credit card statements...
