MAKING $ FROM CHICKENS, GOATS AND GARDEN

Thought about bees, and we do want them but can't until we can afford to finish fencing off property. Bad neighbors like to run their dogs, kids and atv's right where we'd place the hive(s). Can't get them to stop but a fence will. That definitely sounds like a good thing! We have chicks...

MAKING $ FROM CHICKENS, GOATS AND GARDEN

Thank you, BFM. Good luck to you too. Can't sell milk products. Even with new rules, milk products are banned still. Would have to have my kitchen inspected and so forth. Not worth it to me. And I tried making soap but just not good at it. Besides, we get about half gallon a day right now...

    friut tree planting question

Agreed. There are many many different sized fruit trees from semi-dwarf which may only need 8 feet between trees to dwarfs (about 10) and up on. Plus there are some cylindrical/columnar trees that take only a few feet and have almost no branches but produce a lot of fruit from the "base" ...

    Sour cream from goat milk?

I'd like to bump this thread ... how did it turn out? Because: Now that I've mastered making yogurt in the crockpot from our fresh-squeezed (!!) goat milk, my son would like me to move on to sour cream. Problem is: I don't have a cream separator and like the original poster, I don't have the...

MAKING $ FROM CHICKENS, GOATS AND GARDEN

Hubby works for a huge corporation that just bought his old huge corporation. His job isn't assured for another year so we don't want to rock the boat selling more than just kinda on the sly from his desk (eggs so far). MIL lives kinda in town, in a suburb of Denver and has agreed to sell one...

MAKING $ FROM CHICKENS, GOATS AND GARDEN

We thought about Hubby selling once a week after work, but then he'd have to take a cooler to work and keep them cold then lug it back to his car after work. We don't want him to get in trouble with his job. I have crosses with my flocks ... not too many are purebred. I'd have to invest more...

MAKING $ FROM CHICKENS, GOATS AND GARDEN

Hubby has a full time job. I have a full time special needs kid. We have a LOT of medical expenses and more improvements we want to do on our little farmette. And we need to make money. We have 2 little acres, of which about 1/6th is buildings and the driveway 1/6th is the goat pens and...

What fruit/nut trees to plant to shade goat pens?

Ok. So we'll keep the English Walnut where planned. Along the south side, we'll put 3 red apple 3 yellow apple 3 pear ... and if there's more room, whatever we can fit. Since they are dwarf trees, we'll just keep planting every 7 feet until we've run out of room/hit the space allotted for the...

What fruit/nut trees to plant to shade goat pens?

We've got an English Walnut tree that'll overhang the boy's pen to the West. Since those grow 30-50' tall, hope it'll provide the most shade. Wonder if I should worry about those nuts. I know that black walnut roots are toxic but we're only sticking with english.

What fruit/nut trees to plant to shade goat pens?

Right. That's why I'm planting them just outside the pens, by about 1-2 feet. The welded wire won't allow them to get to the tree trunks, I don't mind losing some lower branches that hang over the fence.

What fruit/nut trees to plant to shade goat pens?

We have one medium sized goat pen, and this weekend will make headway on the 2nd one. The first is to be for boys (but has a preggo girl right now) and the 2nd one for the girls and their kids. We planned the goat pens, keeping in mind the very hot summers we get here on the Colorado plains, so...

MyKidLuvsGreenEgz .. .. COLORADO IS BURNING

It's been a while since I've posted. Busy busy! Son's seizures got worse so doctor ordered an inpatient EEG/video monitoring to see if they could isolate where the seizures are coming from. The stay was last week. Checked in, and the EEG specialist started attaching EEG electrodes to his head...

MyKidLuvsGreenEgz .. .. COLORADO IS BURNING

My son had a 4th kind of seizure last night. I can't find a description for it so can't figure out what it is called. I've left a msg at his neuro doc's office to call me. He didn't fall down. I have no clue of there was convulsing. He spaced out ... that's how I found him, sitting in his...

    questions about gas and government

In my humble opinion, the car manufacturers (and gubmnt?) don't want us to get good gas mileage; keep us paying for gas! Just look at how technology has improved: space station, tiny computers, gps, nano-surgeries ... and more. We are capable. Just, I think, not allowed to.

MyKidLuvsGreenEgz .. .. COLORADO IS BURNING

Thanks for the support and the help. I don't have any straw yet but have old hay so on Sunday I'll put a thick layer of hay around the seedlings. I don't know how old they are but they are all about 6-8 inches tall with more than 4 leaves. Should work, right? The weather people have now...

MyKidLuvsGreenEgz .. .. COLORADO IS BURNING

Thanks for the non-secular words of support. Kid starts school next week ... one class a day. Just to see. Will only give me an hour a day but hey, that's more than I have now! And since his seizures are increasing, he has a 3-day hospital stay scheduled for end of April. Could be contributing...

Broody Silkie Hen: CANDLING and HATCHING... We have babies!

Sneezy is a great mom! Every time I try to make her go eat, drink or poop, she screams and runs back to her babies. Guess she's sneaking out while they sleep, or while **I** sleep.

Broody Silkie Hen: CANDLING and HATCHING... We have babies!

H-day was yesterday! Out of the 5 eggs my broody set, all 5 hatched between yesterday and today. There was a straggler who only hatched early this morning, but ... WOOHOO! She sat on 3 bantam silkie eggs and 2 bantam blue egger eggs, all fertilized by a bantam egger roo. Hatched chicklets are a...
