My DD who is 4 has had several on her already. Almost daily. The only thing I know to do is spread out tick killer. I don't like it, but it's better than Lyme disease. I can't have chickens or guineas loose here.
Is the last a peach tree? I had a teacher who was killed when she was knocked off the tractor while doing hay. I was almost flipped off backwards off a huge international mowing hay going under a tree branch. It hung on the exhaust stack and then flew back and almost hit me. I dodged it is...
Today we had a blast!! Yesterday we hit the yard and gathered about a half gallon of worms. This morning we loaded up fishing supplies, food and 2 jugs of water. Then we headed for the lake where it joins the river. We got there and with all the pouring rain yesterday the water was WAY up...
I have a prayer request. At church tonight at alter prayer a little girl asked for prayer for her parents. She was up visiting her grandmother who had custody of her and her 2 brothers for a while. As we were leaving DD said she felt bad for her because both her parents are in jail. I really...
Yay for lockdown! I just put 10 Indian runner duck eggs in my incubator a couple of hours ago. Sounds like your doing good with development! Watch that temp!
:hugs on the washer flood. I used to have one that I had to turn the water off to because it wouldn't shut off. You could always try that if you get tired of hand washing.
I posted it on BYC and got a few different answers. Someone posted pics of golden laced that look like mine. I'm going to keep them and see. Im just happy I got chicks and the bator worked!
Wow bad start early on. I woke up this morning with my head splitting from allergies! I've got to work on the greenhouse today, move the turkeys, clean the bator, set duck eggs, and start a major overhaul on the house. Yep. Spring cleaning. At least it's supposed to rain so I won't be...
Final hatch update. Three out of the second group hatched yesterday. 2 were fully formed and never did anything and 4 died early in incubation. So out of a total of 18 chicks I got 12! Funny thing is that if I go by wing sexing all the browner chicks are going to be Roos and the blacker ones...
All the wyandotte chick pics I've seen have stripes on their backs. A couple of those have very faint stripes. I was going to sell the extras, but I don't want to call them something they're not. A woman from church wanted the extras to add to her flock.
Oops. I'm just realized how big that is and I'm not sure how to resize it. Anyway I have one out of the other group hatched and 2 pipped. Now my question is do those look like blue or golden laced wyandottes to any of y'all? I know they are supposed to be one or the other, but the friend who...
:welcome
I just sexed mine according to the link Bee gave. There are six pics and it explains primary and covert feather lengths. There was a very noticeable difference in the wyandottes I just hatched. It was easy to do and according to it I have 5 pullets and 4 cockerels.
Scovies are usually very broody. I agree that it's just waiting to get enough up to do it herself. I knew someone that started out with one pair on a pond and ended up with so many she was practically giving them away by the second year. Duck eggs are a little harder to hatch than chicken...
You know I've wondered about those things too. For example going shopping on Sunday. I will for necessities that come up, but I try to take care of that stuff on Saturday. I asked someone at church once and she told me do whatever as long as it doesn't interfere with worshipping Him.
It was actually kinda free. We used about 1 1/2 sheets scrap plywood from another project and an old electric heater we had laying around. One of those Patton heaters from the dollar store with a built in thermostat. The metal ones with the wire elements that are like $15 new. And I used a...
