Great thoughts / ideas!
For the most part, yest. I'm in a pretty mild climate and don't use AC. All lights are CFL or LED. Fridge is pretty efficient.
Gas, and that's relatively cheap out here. Most of my $$ is going to electricity.
Yeah, I wish I had thought of having flexibility built-into...
I already have a 3kw system facing south, but it is no longer enough to cover our usage. I'm kicking myself for not sizing it larger 10 years ago when I got solar installed.
I'm in California on a Time Of Use rate plan where electricity is much more expensive during peak usage times from 4pm -...
There was some question about the "new posts" link and functionality. One thing that might help and you could give a try:
Go to the "New Posts" link: https://www.sufficientself.com/whats-new/posts/
Click on the "Filters" link to the right
Choose filters like "Watched Content" and/or "Threads...
Well, y'all got me sufficiently freaked out! ;)
I had 3 taper candles in the big thick jar, melted a ton of leftover candles, and had poured them in. All the wax was about 90% solid until I read all the posts, pulled out the 3 taper candles, remelted the entire thing again, and put one single...
Ugh....
So, back to the drawing board? How hot is "too hot"? I can even use my laser thermometer to get a good heat reading.
I want to be careful, but I also don't want to be making decisions where there isn't really a legit danger.
Thanks! I'll be very mindful of the safety of the situation!
Yeah, good point regarding different types of waxes, etc. There's probably a bit of a mix :hide
Hmmm... this is really a problem / issue? I thought these jars were made for candles and the high-wax temps, no? (they aren't mason jars...
I've been experimenting. I took a "Taper Candle" (box from IKEA) and broke it in half, put the halves in a jar and poured in the melted candles.
Seems to be working well.
... the other experiments... not so much.
Ok, as an experiment, I took a tea candle and then poured some melted wax from old candles around it into a little jar, and once solid lit the candle.
Seemed to be working fine... but then it got to the point where it seemed that the wax was drowning the flame:
All the wicks I've been using have been from existing candles. In fact, I thought the easiest / most reliable thing to do would be to use an existing candle (tall skinny one) and put it in the middle of a jar, then pour melted candles around it... but this hasn't work in all the different ways...
This is fantastic, thanks for sharing!
I have some weird addiction with candles... especially taking the remaining bits of old candles and putting them together into new candles.
The problem I have is always with the wicks. It seems (for reasons beyond my area of expertise) that the candles...
It's definitely your phone. I just used my Android and uploaded all of these At Once by pressing and holding on one and then selecting multiple with checks
Thanks for letting us know! Can you grab a screenshot and also let us know which browser / version you are on, and we can work to duplicate it and get it fixed?
Interesting thread! (now on the new homepage) ;)
I don't think I've ever had mice in my house, but I've always had a problem with rats. I wonder if they don't co-exist?
... what I do know is that controlling them has been a nightmare and it seems they are winning!
Yesterday in fact, I setup a...
