Every year our old terracotta sewer line gets plugged with tree roots and we have to have it rootered out. A huge mess, super inconvenient, and costly.
I hear radio ads for trenchless re-piping and was wondering if anybody has had it done? A few years ago I got a bunch of general quotes. They...
I'm pretty dang proud of myself!!!
We had 2 (YES, TWO) broken Chromebook laptop screens. I thought for sure I'd have to just replace them for about $450, but was able to swap our the screens myself for only about $100 and a half hour of my time...
Thanks @Joel_BC !!! I've been very happy with our purchase and now that we're on the "E-6" rate (time-of-use plan) we can sell power to PG&E for high rates during the middle of the day and then buyback power when it's cheaper. We work hard in the house to wait to do laundry, dishwasher, etc...
This was interesting...
I was looking at my data on my solar panels and I kept seeing this one panel consistently under-performing compared to the rest.
I of course know that different panels have different efficiencies from during manufacturing, but this one had never been a problem before...
Great update post Joel!!
You made some excellent points and asked some thought-provoking questions!
We do work really hard to maintain a certain tone here on SS. Does that tone discourage some "types" of men? Maybe it encourages others?
Do a lot of men tend to look for a "mostly" male...

I totally agree! I'd probably say that my experience has been this: Learn how to search Google and Youtube for information and instructional videos!! This is probably the #1 most useful skill. If you can learn how to effectively find info, you can quickly become an expert (or good enough) at...
Thanks for all the great comments everyone!
So far things are still looking good. I'm SUPER happy that my $10 fix is saving me from hundreds and hundreds of $$$!!
Update: I was a little freaked out because after putting everything together I started to see a drip every 20 seconds or so. My initial thought was: Hmm, this is probably about 60 gallons a year... I'll just skip two showers a year and call it even!
I put a measuring cup under it two hours ago...
We have a SUPER old Champion Irrigation 1" Vacuum Breaker / Check Valve on our sprinkler system.
The whole thing is usually covered up and on a whim I decided to take a look and check everything. Well, it was leaking pretty bad... like a drip every second. The ground was completely saturated...
