Food prices are going to skyrocket. Sure lets put large tariffs on a country we depend on for a huge chunk of our food.
We simply dont produce food like we used to when there were small farms all over the country that fed their region. And it cant come back because subdivisions have now been...
I knew it was possible. I have a couple books that talk about doing that. They don't produce as much of either as a normal plant because the energy is split on where it's stored.
Still is a fun experiment.
Himalayan blackberries here. They take over and can grow 40 foot canes. Spread where they touch and by seed. Sides of the highways here are similar to southern ones that have been eaten by kudzu. We have blackberries that do that.
18° last night. Hit 49° today.
I put down the straw we got yesterday in the silkie pens. Ground was frozen enough I could drive my truck over the lawn to get closer to pens. I also could use wheelbarrow. Couldn't do that yesterday with the mud.
Everything inside plus the floor will warm in the day and slowly cool at night. I would never expect an actual greenhouse to be outside ambient air temp. Would kind of suck for their purpose if they did that. Even a cold frame can make a significant difference in inside temp.
I can tell you...
I can tell you what is encouraged where my parents have their cabin. Eastern Oregon mountain forest. 14 inches of rain annually. Mostly everygreen trees. Douglas fir, tamarack, lodgepole pine, balsam fir. No mowing or use of any electric or gas tools outdoors May -Nov.
This is recommended. Fire...
I have a couple old books from the 70s that say that black painted water barrels should be put in the sunniest place to act as heat sinks to help with temps
Im putting another few feet of fencing up on the posts. Then I think streamers randomly. I've thought out what it would take to build a deer scare to put out there. Small tub fountain. PVC works in place of bamboo to make the scare. Just need a battery powered fountain water pump.
We're getting straw tomorrow to take care of the mud going to the silkie pens. I cleaned out their coops today to make sure they are as dry as possible. Cleaned mudballs off toes. How can 2 pounds of bird get orange sized mudballs in just a couple days.
Freezing at night here but it's actually...
I can't keep them alive here. If it's a cold winter they die. Cant seem to handle both the inundation and cold at the same time. I tried a few times. 2 years was longest one made it.
