    Mardi Gras!

Katharina, that sounds decadent, which I guess is what Mardi Gras is all about. I love praline ice cream, but I don't think I've had them in a cake like that.

    Manufacturing making a comeback?

I guess years from now it will be easy to see where the bottom of all this is, but right now it seems like it will be tough to recognize when things have gotten as low as they'll get. I'm afraid that there will be "benchmarks" like GM going bankrupt or merging with Chrysler as a desperate...

    Harry Potter at Last

I've enjoyed the Harry Potter movies, but I've not read any of the books. I think I've seen a trailer for the new movie, and I was a little surprised that he didn't look too old now.

    Your Thoughts on the Economy?

One of the cases I saw on CNN involved a lady who was having trouble as her payments went up, but didn't have a lawyer to help with the purchase. I was surprised at that. Is it common in some areas of the US to not hire a lawyer when buying a home?

    "Industrial" metals a good investment?

I believe nickel is used for manufacturing electronics, isn't it? If so, I'd expect it to be a good investment. I'm sure silver and gold will remain valuable, and I think I've heard that there's more interest in the actual metals themselves than stocks trading in those industries.

    New Credit Card Regulations

I've received some letters from the credit card companies in the last few months. Thankfully at the moment, we're able to manage our cards and pay them off at the end of each month. I've definitely carried my share of balances from month to month in the past.

    Flat Screen TVs

That reminds me of the first CD player I saw back in 83. The price was $1,500! Now you can get a DVD player for $30.

    Families and the Mortgage Crises

This thread reminds me of a film I watched yesterday. It was End Game by Alex Jones. I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in this thread. If you're already familiar with Alex Jones, you know that there are going to be seemingly outrageous accusations in the film... And after considering...

    Manufacturing making a comeback?

I think the concept of having more local manufacturing is a good one. But in practice here's an example of what's happened: You can buy an American made Fender Stratocaster electric guitar for something like $500 or in the ballpark of that, or you can buy a Fender licensed Chinese made Bullet...

    The Chimp Attack...

I heard of a large cat that "accidentally" killed its trainer. I don't remember the details of the incident, other than the cat refused to eat after it happened and died because of it.

    Flat Screen TVs

Is anybody else here still watching an old bulky TV instead of a newer flat screen TV? I have a flat screen computer monitor that's also a TV, but the other TVs in the place are the old kind and they're still hanging in there. I'm looking forward to getting a larger flat screen model, but...

    Hand Drills

I guess they're pretty much just antiques now, but have you ever used a hand drill on wood? When I was a kid there were some around our place, and I'm sure I used them. I find it very nostalgic to see some of those old tools now.

    What About a Valentines Meal?

Mushroom stroganoff sounds good but I've never had it before. Would that be like a stew with a sauce kind of like a gravy?

    Your Thoughts on the Economy?

I agree with that and I'd add that in some cases, the people getting the credit made some mistakes as well. I saw a report on people who got mortgages with manageable payments initially, but it sounded like the payments were designed to basically double in a few years... At least that's what...

    Mardi Gras!

I'm unfamiliar with a King Cake. What is it like? Also I love the idea of Mardi Gras, but would you ever be a little uncomfortable at times in such a "colorful" area with so many strangers in masks?

    TV Seasons on DVD

I think that's a good idea for a show like Lost. I missed some episodes and lost the details of the back story. Heroes is another one that I find it hard to just jump into again.

    Better on Television?

I like watching hockey games at the venue because you can see the position of all the players, while that's usually not the case with most TV coverage. I've also listened to play-by-play on the radio at the same time. I found sometimes there would be a stoppage in the play that the announcer...

    Wainscoting

Do you think that wainscoting is less popular now than it was a few years ago? It seems to me that I'm seeing less of it done these days, but I still like it if it's done well.

    Fourteen?

I saw her on the cover of a magazine the other day. I think she's going to grab as much publicity as she can, and I'm afraid that won't be a very good thing for her children.

    House M.D.

I think that the writing is still very strong on House, even after a few seasons. For example, I thought the last show that aired about House being on methadone and actually being a nice guy was an interesting approach.
