    Oh no it's snow...

Here in Toronto, Canada we had a bad snow storm about 10 years ago, and the mayor at the time called in the army to help with the snow removal. I guess it was a call that made sense, but that became a huge joke for many other parts of Canada, which think Toronto's too self-absorbed to begin...

    The Daily Show

I like The Daily show. Speaking of woodworking, I think I may have mentioned in another thread that Mark Harmon actually has his own woodworking tools as props on NCIS. Obviously he's into it as well.

    Your Thoughts on the Economy?

I agree that things will probably get worse before they get better. And I do receive credit card offers in the mail, and some telemarketing calls about consolidating debt.

    What About a Valentines Meal?

Katharina, that sounds very good. For some reason, I think crab legs, corn bread and Chardonnay would be a great Valentines Day meal, with some strawberries and chocolate mousse for desert. Maybe next year...

    Mardi Gras!

I make a dish that I call Jambalaya, but I'm not sure how far it varies from the real thing. I steam brown rice then add diced onions, chicken stock, sliced hot sausage, shredded chicken breast, shrimp and then I season with chili powder. We like it... ;)

    TV Seasons on DVD

Does anybody else here get into watching TV seasons on DVD? We have X Files, 24, Dark Angel and Titus to name a few. I think it's a great activity if you're cocooning, staying in to conserve money... Especially if you got a great deal on the season. We've bought entire seasons for $20 or less.

10-12 Glasses of Water Everyday For A Healthy You

I haven't been drinking as much water lately. I've been drinking more tea, including green tea which I hear has antioxidants. I've also had white tea in the past and I like it too.

    Does recession hit your pocket?

I've had some fortunate financial coincidences in the last couple months, so I'm alright to weather a bit of a storm, but I am concerned with trying to diversify my income in the next weeks.

    Salmon & Cedar?

I think I've seen salmon on cedar at a buffet, but I don't remember if I tasted it. I suppose the cedar adds to the flavor, kind of like using mesquite on a barbecue or using a wood burning oven for pizza.

    Ncis

Speaking of the show, I've heard that Mark Harmon actually does woodworking and the tools he uses as props when he's working on that boat are his own personal tools from home.

    House M.D.

Another interesting thing about House is that when he's playing the piano or guitar in the show, that's actually Laurie playing, which I think is very cool. Remember the show when somebody kidnapped his electric guitar?.... I think it was Wilson.

    Ncis

I've started watching it when my wife does, and I like it. I think it's a great ensemble cast. I also think it's neat that they have the guy from Man From UNCLE... I guess that's Ducky, right?

    Salmon & Cedar?

I've never tried it, but has anyone here cooked salmon on a cedar plank? I understand that you need to soak the plank first. I wouldn't mind trying it sometime - Our local grocery store always seems to have the planks in stock.

    Gold as Investment

Comparing gold to real estate as an investment reminds me of some horrible stories. For example, before and during WW II there were people fleeing their countries who could transport their gold but left their property behind. I know that's a situation that none of us want to see again. Also...

    Layaway Making a Come Back?

I hadn't heard of it lately, but I guess it makes sense in this economy. What did surprise me in the last few weeks was hearing that Canadian Tire stores will be ending their online shopping. Can you think of any other stores that are doing that?

    Hockey Sticks?

Has anyone here ever made a hockey stick? I think that would be a very interesting project, especially a goalie stick. The closest I've ever come to that was gluing the blade back onto my road hockey stick. It lasted indefinitely.

    Whole plant food diet

I assume that you include fruits in a whole plant food diet? I wouldn't mind trying it. I think the big challenge in our place would be to satisfy the cravings for meat. Do you include dairy products in the diet? That seems like a dumb question, but I keep seeing people calling themselves...

Anyone Else Like Sci Fi Channel

I've never really watched the Sci Fi channel. When I was a kid, I loved Lost in Space which I'd say was cheesier than Star Trek. Then I liked movies like Alien and Close Encounters and the first three Star Wars movies. More recently, we've been watching the whole X Files series on DVD before...

    Musical Instruments?

I guess that's a whole other topic, but has anyone here done anything with musical instruments? When I was a teenager, I sanded down a solid body electric guitar then took it to a furniture place for a satin finish. I wouldn't do that now, but the finish matches the maple neck perfectly and I...

    Does Anyone Have...

This recipe also reminds me of those Rice Crispie squares. We used to make a version of those with sunflower seeds, trying to make them healthier... ;) That's another homemade recipe that has a nostalgia for me.
